Snow DK35SE HST front mount snowblower opinions

I didn't want to mess with doing it myself, but i applaud those that did. As posted in other threads i bought a "Quick Attach" brand loader mounted blower and rear 25 gal hydraulic power pack. Everything including all parts was somewheres around $10,995 . Not cheap by any means

But so far i have to say it was worth it. I have used it a few times this season already (purchased about 5 months ago) and it works as well as my old pto powered system, but no turning of my head.

Also, no shear pins. I leave the loader on so i can swap between blower, snow blade or bucket in about 2 minutes.

you can see it in action in the video section on this site under new videos.

this unit is so stout i can see it lasting many many years.

Wow, You get snow drifts so high you have to use the blower at the top of the loader's reach!? AWESOME!:D:thumbsup:

Her is what I am thinking. I have old Kohler 25 HP engine. I can get 3PT snow blower and mount it in front instead of the FEL bucket and power it with the engine. I think I can get it for the cost of the blower plus some sprockets and chain.

They make front mounted snowblowers that mount to trucks that have self contained gas engines, so your idea would work.

My desire to obtain a front mount snowblower has been set back a year to next winter.
The company
Company Normand - Snowblowers Front Lift System
had a labor dispute this past year and were unable to manufacture the kits for these front mounts.
grsthegreat - I sure am envious of your set up - but the $$$$$$$.:(
drmac - appreciate your offer but spending my leisure time in my woodworking hobby shop is much more pleasing.
Til next time :)

Redneck In Training--no question you could run a blower with a separate engine, but look into the power requirements. For example Woods specifies for their single auger, two stage blowers the following: 52 inch on 20-40 HP tractors, 60 inch on 25-45 HP machines and 74 inch on 30-50 HP tractors. Realizing that on most machines the PTO power is about 75% of the engine HP, your 25 HP motor would likely be in the middle of the desirable range for a 60 inch blower. Setting up your sprockets would be easy for reduction to 540 rpm on the blower input shaft, which on most blowers I've seen run counter clockwise as seen from the shaft end.

Sounds like fun, good luck with it!

Hi Greg and thanks again for your time when I was designing.

Looking at the Hanson/Sno-vac web site, which isn't very clear, it looks like their 60 inch tractor blower uses the 27 HP engine while the 84 inch truck model uses the 35 HP. Their skid-steer models are calibrated to the available hydraulic flow in GPM. All told I think their data confirms my impression that Redneck should be thinking of a 60 inch blower for his 25 HP motor.

Happy Wintertime, everybody.
