DK50SE HST Cab constantly runs hot

/ DK50SE HST Cab constantly runs hot #22
I asked a dealer about the overheating problem on the DK50SE HST Cab and he said that problem was in the models that had a slanted radiator. He said it has been redesigned and the radiator is now vertical with no slant. The overheating issue was resolved. Does this sound reasonable? I am looking at a 2012 DK50SE HST Cab w/FEL with 100 hrs, what would a fair price be?

I have a 2012 DK50SE HST Cab. My temp has elevated only once when the radiator screens became clogged. I have run for hours in tall hay, with the A/C blasting, and other than that one time, the needle has never moved off the first mark on the gauge.

I have purchased something called a "Tractor Genie" that will use air or water to clean the radiator - $30.

I don't know what the price would be. I also have the version with a vertical radiator. I've tried using an air compressor to blow out dust etc. I don't think it worked any better then using a leaf blower. Still get's hot quick.

It sounds like the dealer was not being honest. I have a lot of acreage to cut and I wanted the cab so i could be more comfortable during our hot humid summers. It takes hours to cut, especially if doing hay. I could not afford constant overheating. Is this a problem only with the DK50SE cab model? Has this overheating been seen in the DK40 or DK45 without a cab? I need to make a decision soon. I'm also looking at a CK30, have any problems been seen in this model, should I be posting this question in a different forum? Thanks.

I've never had an issue overheating, (CK30 or DK45 HST Cab) but I don't do anything that would cause the rad to clog up. I also spend more time on TBN than I should and have not seen this as a regular complaint against the DK SE cab models (or non cab models).

From what you say, you need to really evaluate what your needs are. If I understand your post, you're looking at a CK30 and DK cab? The CK and DK are a world apart and if you want a cab to be more comfortable in the hot humid summers, your only choice is the DK. The comfort cab for the CK is not air conditioned and gets hot, really, really hot in the summer. The price difference between a CK30 with comfort cab and DK40 with factory cab is so little, it wouldn't make sense not to get the DK40. I added the comfort cab when Kioti put them on sale, but it was still about $7K with install.

My UTV has a slotted hood for airflow to the radiator. The slots are such that they just feed hay seed into the radiator pre-screen, which lays almost horizontal under the hood. I purchased window screen fabric from Lowes and just made an additional screen to cover the slots. It's easy to just brush it off by hand when I see an accumulation building. So far, it's working. If I see that I have an ongoing problem on my DK50, I'll work out something similar, and perhaps even for my F-150 that sees routine farm use.

Is your screen clogged after cutting?

/ DK50SE HST Cab constantly runs hot #29
I don't use my DK for cutting - at least not yet. I grow about 90 acres of hay and sell it as it stands. The buyer brings his own gear to cut/bale/haul. This keeps me from investing thousands in the gear but still provides a nice check.

I do, however, use my tractor for spraying and routine farm maintenance and have therefore spent a number of continuous hours in the fields. The pre-screens do their job, so they do require being brushed off at times. For me, this has not been a big issue - just something I remember to check. Your situation may be far different than mine.

I must admit, this being my first tractor, I hadn't even thought of this problem before I saw it the first time for myself. Having said that, I would suspect that all tractors, at least to some degree, have the same issue. I further suspect, smaller(lower) tractors are worse.

You're posting in the right place. Forget the CK series for what you want to do. Ask yourself why a 2012 DK-50 is for sale with only 100 hours, then find another tractor to buy. There must have been a problem with it that could not/ was not resolved to the prior owner's satisfaction. There is not a lot of input from owners of DK-50 on this forum; it is not clear whether it is because they have few issues or because their are fewer owners of them here than other models like the DK-40.
If I were you I'd figure out what HP you need to run what you want to use with some extra HP to spare.
Buying used presents benefits if one is lucky and finds a good unit without a lot of problems. Buying new costs more BUT provides a peace of mind through the warranty, not found in a used unit.
Post back thinking process.

The DK50 cab w/FEL is a demo with full warranty, tired of hot humid summers doing hay or just cutting fields. I also need a tractor for using in barns. Unlikely I could make package deal for both so will probably forego the cab and get the DK45 or 50 TLB,it will fit in barns and without the cab I don't have to buy a garage to store it. Originally thought the CK30 TLB for use in tighter spaces and DK50 cab for hay, grass, snow, anything else that needed to be done on farm. Also have 80 acre forest. Realistically can get by with DK50SE TLB. Wife wanted the cab but we can't do both.(unless we got an incredible deal)
Would like to get a grapple, hydraulic thumb, snowblower.
What is a Top-N-Tilt? Went to website but didn't understand what it could be used for.

TnT is Hydraulic Top Cylinder and Hydraulic side link. Mainly used for dirt work like Rear Blade And Box Blade.

I mistakenly thought the DK-50 cab unit was used. So, the good thing for you is you can use the warranty to help you get your dealer to fix the overheat issue, or have them cut you a real sweet deal to buy it from stock, or both. OTOH, you could get a brand new, no issues non-cab unit and get started doing what you need to get done.
I do all of what you want to do except hay with no cab including plow snow here in VT. NJ should be a piece of cake weatherwise, unless of course your farm is on the shoreline, then it might be comparable....

Am going to order a DK today, does anyone know the price spread between the DK40SE TLB (no cab) and the DK45 and DK50SE? I have a list of options but just wonder the base price. I have a quote of 36K for the DK40 but it seems slightly high from what I've read on this site. Thanks in advance.

The spread depends mostly on what the dealer has in stock. I got a good deal on a DK45 because he had one he wanted to get rid of. I originally went looking for a DK50 but he couldn't do much for price on the one he had and he would have had to order a DK40 cab and told me the price would be the same as what the DK45 was.

As far as PTO hp goes, there's a bigger difference between the DK40 and DK45 (4 hp if memory serves) and a small difference between the DK45 and DK50 (only 2 hp, again going by memory). If you're doing hay, you'll need every pony you can get. A/C robs 5-7 hp, so that might have been a deal breaker for the cab model anyway.

I think if you search around, $31-32k is as cheap as a DK40 HST TLB ever goes for, and add something like $1k for the next one up, 45 then to 50.
Get some other quotes even if they are far away to help you knock the price down a little atleast, or get a bunch of extras. Filled rears, extra remote, bale spear, trailer? I think at $36k they have lots of room! Also there is $5k off right now, so they should start at MSRP minus $5k atleast.

From my experience, $31k for a DK40SE hst TLB is actually a little high. Before a bunch of extras and a couple implements, which brought mine to $31.5k, mine stripped was around $28k. I think I saw another poster report a similar price in the last month or so.

I tend to agree; I would want a breakdown of each part cost, Tractor, bhoe, FEL, and then a pkg price with dual rear remotes, loaded tires, and whatever else you want, like an aluminum canopy instead of cab/ac, etc.
