DK5310SE Irregular Chirping Sound From Power Steering Unit

Thanks for the information, Venturabrass. Was it you that said you have a manual? If so, where did you purchase it? I would presume the manual for the DK 4510SE HST should be good for the DK 4720SE HST. THANKS

Yes I have the manual. I bought it from the dealer the day I bought the tractor. It covers the DK10SE series. I’d think it’d be almost identical to the DK20SE as all that really changed was loader joystick, led headlights

What specific hydraulic fluid did you use at the 50 hour change?

Mobile 424, but others have used Shell, Kioti, and the usual other brands and have said the odd noise persists. This topic has come up a few times in that fb group.

Well had a little bit of time before we bugged out for vacation today. Ironically the tractor really wasn’t making the sound for the first 20 minutes and then started to towards the end. I can confirm I did not hear any sound or feel any vibration coming from the hydraulic pump. All of this was focused at the steering unit, I’m now realizing this is called an orbitrol valve.

When it was happening I tried turning the steering wheel both ways. It did not change the sound even though I was technically changing the fluid flow path internally. There was also no chattering of the steering or any other function for that matter. All hydraulic functions were smooth as silk.

I caught up watching some videos of what hydraulic cavitation is. It seems like it’s more of a continuous sound. And becomes louder the worst the condition is. Not really a random “chirp chirp”.

Changing engine rpm sometimes changed the sound or intensity. But otherwise occurrence seemed completely random.

Yeah we are definitely talking about the same thing. I had a video awhile back that you can clearly hear that sound. I'll see if I can find it.

Venturabass, I’ll have to buy one. And, yes… just minor changes between models.

I’m still wondering if this sound is resonating from a vibration somewhere or if it is actually hydraulic related.

I haven’t started the tractor today, but suspect it only happens when it reaches operating temperature… after it warms up.

I need to study the manual when I’m back home. Was looking up info on cavitation, but it seems like it’s generally on the low pressure side of pump. Would make you think well how do you have cavitation on the pressure side? Though these pumps only build pressure when there’s a resistance to flow or you’re counteracting lifting a load. And what’s the deal with this modulator valve we have? I think I remember it’s just upstream of the steering unit?

My noise got a little louder and I Just discovered a hydraulic leak on the right side, behind the rear tire where linkage enters the transmission. All this at 6hrs on the meter And very light duty work.

I scheduled a warranty service appointment, but it’s two weeks out. Depending on the diagnosis, I may just request that Kioti replace this tractor with a new one. This one is a Lemon... and I’m willing to go through arbitration.

I really wanted to like this tractor, but I’m now very skeptical about its durability. I should have just paid the extra 10k for the JD. I’m wondering if Kioti is buying Chinese parts now…

Sorry to hear gumshu. No one wants issues after spending all this money.

If it’s helpful check “bolt1” in the diagram and photo. This is a cap that goes on rear remote valve, where you’d stack a second valve. I had a leak on mine and dealer found one of the bolts was loose. There’s like 4 orings behind it so be careful if you take off. Won’t cure frustration but will keep you going if this is it.
