When I was looking for a tractor I went to a dealer to look at a used TC30. While I was there the salesman wanted to show me a SS setup. We went to 5 tractors with SS and not one would start. I told him that didn't bother me.

I bought from another dealer, but only because the price was better and it was closer to my land. I made a deal over the phone and when I went to look at the tractor, it was in make ready, and they were installing a new interstate battery in it. The original had gone dead. The tractor had 2 hours on it.

It seems like this is a problem you would not want to be having on such an expensive machines. Anyone experienced anything like this. You have to understand, this was November shirt sleeve weather here in TX. Not cold at all. I didn't mind getting the new battery though. Thanks, MP

Mark, my battery is over 5 yr old. I bought my tractor in February of 2001 and it has the same battery it came with. I'm expecting any day to have to replace it, but so far it is still working.

Me too --- almost .... I've replaced my 2001 battery just once - it was just a year old .... I set it on my tailgate while I was cleaning the acid off the area around the radiator -- went in for lunch -- thought about what I needed from the store and took off to the store immediately after eating .....oh yeah .... battery ....oops /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

2.X years and still going strong on original battery

Dealer probably just need to charge the originals up. Easier and faster just to put one in that is ready to roll.

My rig had 50 hours on the meter before the battery needed to be replaced because of acid that was coming from the original NH battery. A lot of New Holland tractors as well as other makes such as John Deere had this acid being spilled all over the front of the tractor where the fan would pick it up and sling it everywhere, causing additional problems. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif A lot of guys simply got disgusted and installed a sealed Optima battery that can be mounted on its side with no loss of batter acid. And a few even installed their leaking or gassing batteries in the type of battery box normally found in most boats.

Here's how we modified ours. ACID WOES

The battery on my 1630 lasted five years, might have lasted longer but I needed the tractor everyday and decided to replace it.

Bought my TC33DA in December, took delivery in January, now have 38 hrs. on it. Had to jump start it once, have recharged it twice (slow, long charge after a quicky high amp boost). Used it this morning for about 5 minutes, and thought I'd have to jump it when I first tried to crank it. Last use was about 4hrs. of shredding in daylight, (no battery drain), so it should have been well charged. I mentioned this to my salesman when I went by their store, he didn't seem surprised at all & said just bring in the battery, he'll replace it. I'll probably get an Optima, & try to get dealer to give me a credit instead.

Bought my TC18 in March 2001, and still have the original battery. I've never had to charge it or have it jumped.

I've got a 2003 TC24D that has about 500 hours on it. No problems with the battery. No signs of any leakage that others have reported. Never have charged it or jumped it - though I used it to jump our Honda once when I left the ignition on that left the fan/radio on. (Side note as to why that happened, I was loading something in the trunk of the car and saw an accident happen at the corner of our property and went running to call 911 - then see if anyone was hurt - they were though not seriously amazing the that Ford Ranger was flying through the air). Back to the battery. I also use 3 work lights (2 forward/1 rear) in addition to the 4 headlights quite a bit. The tractor has only been used maybe 4 times total since Oct. (no snow) but it has done a bunch of starts in that time period, if I go out to the garage now and would try to start it, it wouldn't even hesitate. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Did I mention I like my little NH? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If it's the battery not the machine it don't make no difference how expensive or the cheap the tractor or what brand of machine.
