Do boomers have battery problems?

The point being on this expensive of machines the battery should be of better quality. Everyone else got the point.

I Love NH Tractors.

Yes, Boomers have battery problems. My TC33D had battery acid everywhere from the original battery setup. I cleaned it up so no further damage has been done, but there are definitely permanent scars, which is a shame. I now use an AGM battery so I won’t have any more problems. I just bought a Jeep Liberty with a diesel motor. It came with an Optima AGM battery as stock equipment. I wish NH would have done the same.

Yes, I realize it is THE BATTERY and not the tractor. That is why I told the dealer it wasn't a problem for me. But if your trying to sell a, any machine, and something as simple as a weak battery blows the sale, I would assume you would not want that problem to show itself. Like I said, one dealer tried to start 5 tractors with SS, with no luck.

I have seen quite a few dead batts at car/truck as well as tractor dealers, some from sitting a long while and some from people turning on parking lights and emergency flashers during daylight hours when they are not noticed. Most tractors do not need ign switch on for these to work. Have run into many cab tractors with dead batts due to dome lights. My OE batt had code markings that indicated it was made by Douglas and I replaced it after 4.5-5 years with a NAPA/Exide that has performed well. The onlt problem with the battery that is truly a problem is the venting of the gas in front of the radiator which in turn damages the paint and removes the paint from the radiator leaving behind bare copper. Lots of tractors get started up many times for just a few min at a time on lots just to move them around and let a customer run it around the lot for 30 seconds. Each of these glow plug assisted starts along with the non glow plug starts where a customer cranks the starter for 30 seconds straight is rough on the battery. The tractor may then sit for weeks without a start with a battery with a 60% charge due to the number of starts versus total run time.

It's not just NH. My Kioti has a stock acid battery that leaks acid out the top. It has already made a corrosion mess despite attempted cleanups. Maybe it is a rough environment, maybe the battery acid level is too high, but one thing is for sure, as delivered the battery experiences unacceptable leakage. I have an AGM in my pickup and it is very nice and clean, but 125$. The OEM tractor battery works very well but is leaky so I would like to use a plastic battery box from walmart. These work very well as long as they can be restrained, if they can't be restrained I'll toss the OEM battery for an AGM.

On my TC-40D I lowered the battery water (electrolyte) level to just above the plates. Amounted to dripping the level about 1/8" to 1/4" on each cell.
