I have been shopping for a used Kubota for close to 6 months at this point. I have consistently seen the EXACT SAME machines for sale at the SAME dealers for 6 months. Every time I inquire about the machines the dealers say "we are open for offers, but truly the machine is worth the asking price". If that is the case...wouldn't the machine SELL?

What's the deal?

Do the dealers hold onto used units because they artificially inflate resale value?
"Buy this new one, it is only a few thou more than that used one...and in 5 years it will only lose a few thou in value."

The machines I have been looking at all appear to be stagnant in the same price range and are in reasonable driving distance of me. It would appear that if one dealer would drop price a few k, they could sell easily.

Thoughts?

I looked at a couple of used b2620 last week, One at a john deere dealer and one at kubota dealer. The one at john deere dealer was priced at 500.00 over new and the one at kubota they said we could knock off 500-1000 off new. I laughed and walked out. Both were out of any warranty! But when You try to trade one in they tell you that is worth 1000s less.

if a dealer has a used tractor that your wanting to buy theres nothing wrong with making them an offer.i dont know of a dealer that sells anything for their asking price.most all of the dealers will accept any reasonable offer.

What is reasonable? If they are asking $30k for a used machine...and it has been listed on Ebay since Sept...is $24k "reasonable"?

I found my Kubota on a dealer's lot but I was allowed to buy it from the individual that was trading up...saved me sales tax...
The dealer treated me like I was their own customer...

yes $24,000 would be reasonable offer.but to really have a good feel for it,price a new 1 just the way you want it.an that will tell you what to offer.once a tractor rolls off the lot it loses 15 to 20% of its value.

If they've been trying to sell it for 6 months with the kind of exposure you get from ebay you know $30,000 isn't a fair price, offer them $24,000. If they refuse tell them you've watched it for 6 months and know it's not selling, make a reasonable counter offer.

I know we take offers as well as sell on e-bay! Do make offers, it is the start of negotiations.

The dealer I have bought 4 tractors from told me they use a broker for trade ins. They call the guy up, he tells them what he will pay and they figure out what they need to make and then offer a trade in price to the customer. Don't know if it's true.
