Do I dare put Slick 50 in my Yanmar?

Just one question!
Why do folks think the additive companies know more about what ingredients should be in oil than the oil refineries do ???

Do you think they will put anything in the oil rather than just what is needed to get by with? Most (Most) oil only meets the SAE requirements. Not saying that this is not enough but... some times re-inventing the wheel is good.

But remember Marketing is the number one key in business. Not if you have the better product. Unfortunately now days they are products on the market that are said to do things that they do not. Sometimes they are things on the market that actually do things they are marketed to do. Unfortunately corporate businesses are not regulated as some areas like medicines. In my opinion, medicine is not regulated well either. But that is another thread LOL.

I do believe there is products that improve oils protection. However... regular oil and filter changes are the most protective way to protect your most valuable machinery. No matter how good the oil is... it will get contaminated and need changing on a very regular basis no matter what additive is added.

Marketing was the only thing that the Slick 50 folks did well, and then their house of cards tumbled when the FTC ruled their advertising was false.

Had not the FTC brought this to public attention, it is hard telling how long people would have continued to buy this stuff. Education is the ruination of a good scam. Nowadays it's hard to find anyone who believes motor oil needs supplemental help.

This is why it was so hard for the posters on TBN to convince me to use a diesel fuel supplement.

Diesel fuel additives that prevent gelling are hardly in the same category as motor oil supplements such as Slick50. Slick50 was proven not to work. Diesel fuel additives do work. Whether someone needs them is another story.

Certain oil and fuel additives do work, tests prove it, and while others are gimmicks. It all boils down to piece of mind.
