For an experiment...

Scan it as "text"

If any of the other choices have "2 Bit" ... try that.

If you have a black/white photo... then use "grayscale"...

Post so we can see /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

{more importantly... so you can see /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif}

John, when I put a sheet of paper in the scanner, it offers the following choices: (1) text, 300 x 300 dpi, and "estimated size per page" of 1027k, (2) photo, 150 x 150 dpi, grayscale, size of 136k - that's what I used, but it actually came out to be 204k according to Windows Explorer, (3) grapic, 300 x 300 dpi, size of 547k, and (4) Other - custom settings (probably the best one to use if you knew what you were doing. I saved it as a .jpg file, put it in the directory with my other photos, then resized it downward to 920 x 1170 pixels and it was 160k (that's where I screwed up; I should have downsized it even more).

OK, now I've downsized it to 755 x 960 and I'll see how that looks.

Well, at least now I don't have to scroll across to see it all; it fits on my screen; don't know about others' screens. That's always a problem for me; I have no idea what size to make a copy or photo for it to look right until I post it and use up more of Muhammad's space. Then after it's posted, I don't know how to edit an attachment. I guess I could just delete the post and start over, though.

I'd use "text mode" for b/w stuff. I said "2 bit", I meant "1 bit"...

On faxing stuff you'd use 200 x 100 for regular and 200 x 200 for fine.

On color 150 dpi {for decent reproduction} and always save as "jpg" for smallest file size.

Thanks for the kind words, Al. I'm still just trying to learn myself and have fun; glad to help when I can. Too danged hot and dry around here to do much else; might as well play on the computer./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
