Front-End Loader Do I need a FEL?

   / Do I need a FEL? #31
When I bought my tractor 2 years ago, I didn't care what brand, size, or age, but it HAD to be 4x4, and it HAD to have a loader.

As a kid, we had a MF 135, with a big cumbersome loader that was too heavy for the 2wd 135, so it spent more time off than on. Then, in 1986, a good friend bought a new kubota L2850 MFWD with loader. What a difference, having the additional traction and properly sized loader. Over the years I put meny hours on the L2850, and his second, bigger L4310hst cab tractor. Loader is a must-have item.

Trusty ol' L2850

The younger, more robust L4310, putting a log on the sawmill

Going by my local Kubota dealer, it's clear to me that outside the heavy ag industry, people are no longer buying tractors.

They're buying self-propelled FELs.

VERY true (and well said... I'm going to nick that saying FTG-05!).

Others have already given plenty of reasons and justifications to have/get a FEL. My addition is that it's easier to get it before the financial restraints of retirement kick in. Once you have it, you've got it.

If you have it, you will use it. Once you have one you will wonder how you lived with out it.

Well I guess that's why they are called Compact Utility Tractors. A lot of the utility is in that front loader. The quick-attach bucket and forks were critical for me and were bought with the tractor.

I couldn't live without a loader. However, if I had 70 acres and was quoted $7K for the FEL, I would start shopping for a used loader tractor. $7K might buy a pretty good one. Two tractors are always better than one tractor.

I like saving my back , a loader is great for that

Ansung makes a loader for your tractor, model 5600QB. You can contact them to find a local dealer. Another source for a loader to fit your tractor is Everything Attachments, who advertise on this site and very reputable. I don't know how much you might save, but you can check it out. Good luck.

He has a big tractor. 7K isn't that bad. 7K won't by much of a tractor around here especially 4wd and has a loader.
