Do John Deere dealers generally negotiate?

I live in the New England area and all except one of the JD dealerships are owned by the same company. As far as I'm concerned, I've crossed JD off my shopping list because one company has a near monopoly on dealerships in five states around me. Because of this, what motivation does the lone JD dealership that isn't owned by said monopoly have to negotiate on price when they can charge the same amount (or extremely close to) the company that holds a monopoly?

I ran across this just some info:

Yanmar tractors were rated #1 in Product Quality among tractor manufacturers for the last 6 years in a row in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023. This is based on a survey conducted by Equipment Dealers Association (EDA) in its annual dealer-manufacturer relations survey.

Around me, there are about 5 JD dealers within a 30 minute drive. Two are owned by an evil company, the others are owned by a good company. Unfortunately, I picked the evil one to buy from because they were closest to my home and I had no prior experience with them to know better.

They were willing to negotiate on the price, but found six ways from Sunday to screw me otherwise. So my recommendation is to concentrate on figuring out whether a dealer is run by decent human beings rather than focusing solely on price or convenience of location.

A few years ago I priced out a 40 hp JD tractor/loader/BH, don't remember the model number. Dealer threw around some numbers and then gave me a 10% discount, pretty good I thought. When I got home I did a little on line searching. Turns out the 10% discounted price was actually MSRP!!?? I bought a different brand.

I could’ve bought a JD 4052 R for at least $6,000 less than a Kubota Grand L 5460. JD didn’t even make it in my top 4 picks, ended up buying Kubota and I know I got a lot better tractor.
The other 3 in my top 4 picks were MF 2860 M, Yanmar YT 359, and Kioti NS 6010.

I always get a kick out of the use of the word "Negotiate".

That always means a price reduction to the prospective buyer. Never an additional payment to the seller. Or a commitment of future purchases.

one way negotiation is NOT negotiation.

But it never hurts to ask!

That came from Yanmar's website. No measuring data mentioned.
