I get a farm supply catalog whose name I can't remember. But they have a rodent poison that is approved for use in food production facilities. Supposedly the poison only kills the rodent. Another animal eating the poison killed rodent will not be harmed.

Later,
Dan

Dog or cat that eats a poisoned mouse, usually will not get sick from the poison, but might get sick from the mouse itself. If you have mice, and your cat eats them, there is a strong chance that your cat will have tape worm. Some poisons will only kill small creatures such as mice, and are not fatal to dogs, unless they are very small, such as the mini poodle. It all has to do with the amount of poison as compared to the size of the pet. There are too many different types of rodent poisons out there to make a blanket statement about pets and the poisons, so it will be best to know exactly what poison you are dealing with. There is a Pet Poison Control Center. Most charge a fee for the service, but one fee usually covers all necessary calls, including advising your veterinarian. They will tell you what to do for first aid, and how toxic the poison is to the pet. You will need the package of the poison, along with the weight and breed of your dog. They operate 24/7/365. Here is another service provided by the North Shore Animal League. The Animal Poison Hotline 888-232-8870

I love squirrels yes I do,
boiled,
broiled,
or in a stew.

I wonder if that T contraption would also work for chipmunks? They do so much damage around here I've threatened to buy a shotgun.

I keep the blue/green poison blocks up onmy tractors during winter to cut down on rat damage.

I usually eradicate about 5 of them or so a year that way.. My outside dogs have never been interested in the dead carcasses....now.. horse maneur balls.. well now.. that's another story... must taste real good..... You'd think I didn't feed my dogs or something...

Are you at all worried that one of your dogs will find a poisoned squirrel or mouse and eat it, ingesting the poison too?

My 2 minature poodles are always scrounging in the back yard - you'd think we never fed them! I'd worry that they would eat one of the dead mice or squirrels, anyone have any experience with this? Also, do the birds leave the poison alone in the trees? I'd hate to kill the little songsters too...........

Otherwise, I'm ready to reduce the squirrel population in my area! Rats with big tails is how I view them.............one year they dug thru the cedar shingles on my roof and got into the attic - did about $5k damage to my house before I got them all out and the roof repaired.

Never could figure this one out.... dogs will either eat them or roll in them. All I can say is that after giving my dog a few cold water baths in the middle of the winter, he finally learned that it wasn't worth the penalty to roll in manure again. Dusty

Didn't work for me. All that happened was that I learned not to give my dogs cold water baths in the middle of winter again. Brrrrrrr.

my 2 labs are quite the hunters. (well at least one of them anyway, i think its zeus) anyway they routinly catch mice, and baby bunny rabits. They have already cought 1 mole out at the new property. (ugly not-so-little sucker)

for squirrels i use a .22 pellet gun. (in the city) out on the property i can reach out a bit more with my .22 rifle. I can drop a squirrel from a tree dead at 20 yards with the pellet gun. 40-50 yards with rifle.

few ever escape my crosshairs. (i actually enjoy varmint hunting) now that i have the property ill be getting a new .17 HMR with leupold vari x2

I have all but eliminated the squirrel problem at my house in the city. Ive seen a few out at the new place, Ill look to solve that over time :D

Give some consideration to the possibility of your plan being realized. I did kill ALL (ground squirrels) that came onto my 5 acres some years ago. Haven't seen ANY since ... really miss shooting one occasionally ... should have left a few, in retrospect
