Do you cary a weapon on your tractor?

Now, I carry a .38 revolver in my pocket (in a holster)...but I carry almost all the time.

No offence at you personally Roy, I just grabbed your words.

But this is the thing that scares me about the US. Is it true anyone is allowed to carry a concealed firearm?

Being a law abiding citizen here, it would be veryhard for me to get my hands on one of those, and that is a good thing I think.

Now I know that the crims here have them, but the fact that they aren;t out in general circulation makes me a happy chappy.

Only in America as we say !!

Cheers

None taken...

Currently, one can obtain a carry permit in 2/3rds of the US. Some states require training, others, such as Pennsylvania (my home) assume the citizens have enough smarts to do this on their own.
Every state that has initiated concealed carry permits has exhibited a decrease in crime (which has been soaring...mostly attributable to use of drugs IMHO). Although there have been some abuse of the concealed carry, this has been extremely rare.

Now, what I've been reading (on pro-rights sites and periodicals), Australia's crime rate has been increasing since your government virtually eliminated personal ownership of firearms. However, if you feel safer with just the criminals being armed, so be it.

Of course, Australians has no right to possess, bear, or carry firearms. In our Bill of Rights, the "right of the people" is inalienable, although many of our lefties don't believe in this right. Nice thing about rights is one doesn't have to exercise them...too bad our homegrown socialists can't understand that!

"Now I know that the crims here have them, but the fact that they aren;t out in general circulation makes me a happy chappy."

Don't you think your fellow citizens have good judgement, or are smart enough? It's apparent your government doesn't (actually, it's more about the power of the government over it's slaves..er, citizens).

A site frequently used as a reference is www.packing.org. One of the pages lists what are called "shall issue" states:

http://www.packing.org/state/report_basic.jsp?search=shall_issue

Make sure you click on Vermont. That's pretty interesting. It's classified as a "shall issue" state, but doesn't "issue" anything. No permits are required. The number of "shall issue" states has increased in the last several years. It has been debated whether this or some other factor has been behind a decrease of violent crime in certain areas while there has been an increase in other areas.

Several years ago, Florida became an easy state in which to obtain a carry permit. At the time, the media went crazy with predictions of untold numbers of shooting victims. Never happened. A bit later, the media did report on an increase in the number of crimes against tourists while crimes against residents were decreasing, with the result still being a net decrease in violent crime. They never made the connection, but that's our liberal media...............chim

Good morning Roy. I see we were typing at the same time. Good point about the abuse of CCW. I recently heard (and forgot) a report on the low number of abuses, but it was something in the order of 1/100 of 1% of permits issued. Gotta get ready for work now. See ya...........chim

Sad but true./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

But there is a couple of good sides to that. First and foremost is to legally carry they've got to take classes. Once they're out of the class they're more likely to run from a situation where the uninformed armed person would get involved. They understand their liabilities. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Living here in Texas where there's always been a large percentage packin' compared to the rest of the states has been a life saver more than once for me.

I don't pack. Just a personal thing.

But there have been some situations where it looked like should've for a minute or two. Of course my natural reaction is pure t confrontation. I just assume I'm gonna get my butt whipped, it won't be the first and it won't be the last, so let's do it, now. What has almost always happened is the other party automatically assumes someone so willing to mix it up has to be packing and they back down, quickly.

But the bottom line, present company excepted of course, is the reason folks pack is they're afraid. Nothing wrong you understand with being afraid, all of us fear something and some of us fear everything. It's a natural part of us as human beings.

I've got NPR on twenty four seven at the shop and in the truck. I love it.

Every now and then when a project takes some extra effort I might switch over to talk radio just to get the juices flowing /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I don't doubt that some states require that. I know for a fact that not all do. Here in Indiana you apply for your permit and, once it's issued, you can go to the gun shop and buy whatever you wish, load it and walk out the door with it legally.

Here it's tougher to get a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license than it is to get a CCW permit and carry a loaded handgun.

the new Smith & Wesson Airweight

Been many years since I bought a new gun, so I don't know about any new Airweight, but know that when I bought my S&W Chief in '64, they had it in an airweight even back then. Some folks thought it might not hold up as well over time as the old steel ones, but I don't know whether there was anything to that or not.

"But the bottom line, present company excepted of course, is the reason folks pack is they're afraid."

More like being prepared...or in my particular case...exercising my right is extremely important to me.

However, the liability issue wrought'n Harv brings up is correct. IF you have to shoot in self defense, it's quite likely your life will be a total disaster for a period of time. You might get arrested unless it's clearcut self defense. In PA, you've got to try to run if you can...which would be my first choice. Of course, I've got a limp (from a stroke) so I'm not going to win any races.

But I don't know why you say it's "Sad, but true", Harv... A right is a precious thing...to be guarded from any infringment. LOL, maybe ya been listening to too much NPR!

You did mention you were confrontational. That is not the mindset to have if you're packing. Although I'm a pretty aggressive person, I find myself to be much less confrontational since I've been carrying (or maybe it's just old age setting in).

Hmmmm, we seemed to have strayed from carrying on a tractor!!
