Do you do your own maintenance ?

I work at a mine, so when we shut down for the winter I need to do my own work to keep from going crazy. I do it all myself because I can find flaws that pros leave, and nothing makes me more mad than when something isn't done right the first time. As for the one cylinder to every year, I'm way ahead of the curve... 68 cylinders, 28 years. 21 don't run, but are in parts vehicles or in the process of being rebuilt. Then we have the deck horror stories. We bought our home a year ago, but part of getting the home loan was to get the septic pumped and inspected. The pump truck turned to tight to the deck and took out the entire corner. Had to replace all that after moving two feet of snow. Thank goodness I had the tractor!:D

40 Cylinders 41 if you count the one on the air compressor!

Yep i do all my maintence, unless a job i cant do, very few of them, or i can pay a shop to do it for so cheap its not worth my time. Like U joints, the local shop charges either $10 or 20 a joint, its not worth me banging on them for that!!

forgot to count the old farm trucks, one bout to be given to me and the other is not running but can be fixed just dont have time. So there is anther 10 cyls bringing my total to 50! And im 29.

I've pretty much always been an overachiever on the cylinder curve... my first car at age 10 and had power mowers before that for my neighborhood lawn business.

Have over 25 vehicles insured and about that many waiting as future projects or parts cars...

In the basement currently there are 12 Model A and B blocks with a couple of Model T and 289/302 Fords motors...

It's a close call... but, I would say the one cylinder 1905 Oldsmobile is at the top of the list...

I try to never hire out a job I think I can do myself. I do, however, hire someone to fix the jobs that I thought I could do myself, but found out I couldn't.

What you say about the number of cylinders reminds me of a thread someone started on TBN back about 2006, supposedly the ideal ratio was one cylinder per year of your age. I am a bit hazy of how much powered yard equipment I have that has one cylinder (non-running) but the ratio is 60 years old/over 80 cylinders

That's ok, better then the other way around (80 yrs old and 60 cylinders)

I'm 47 yrs of age with about 37 cylinders.

I do ALL home maintenance on my 5400 SF house, including additions. I recently built a nice size shed, and a concrete exterior basement staircase.

Cars get taken in for maintenance/repairs. As far as tractor/yard equipment goes, we do the basics (fluids, filters, grease, yada...yada) but for anything significant they get taken in for repairs...
