I've a new TC29 and the 50 hour service will be due soon. I've worked on my cars and machines and wondering if I should do my tractor maintenance myself.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't see why not. If your confidnet you can do it, it shouldn't be a problem. If you do run into any problems or have questions just ask. Someone here has probably run into the problem before and has the answer.

If your dealer is doing any of the service for free, then I'd let them do it. if it was all on my nickle.. I'd do it.

I just picked up all the filters and oil for my 'spring' servicing of my ford and NH tractors. Will start on it tonight, and do the rest this weekend.

If you do it yourself, just refer to the maintenance section of your manual and hit all the points it says hit.. check belts, hoses.. tire pressure.. battery electrolyte.. whatever it says.. etc... grease fittings.. etc..

I've done all of my own maitenance on my TC-24. It usually isn't too bad. I need to make a trip to the dealer and get the hydraulic fluid and all of the filters. I'm overdue on the hydraulic fluid change and due for an oil change. I'll get those and a couple of items I need for the mower deck, change the fluid in the gear box of it, change the anti-freeze and I'll be good to go for the summer - or until I break something.:D  :) :( :p

Yes,not so much of the cost to have the dealer do it,but to understand how the tractor works etc... case if I ever get into jam.

Tractor maintenance is ALLOT EASIER than auto maintenance. You can get to everything quickly and easily. Nothing to it.

Another advantage is you get to decide what you use. If it's the dealer, you're relying on them using the best fluids, but you really don't know for sure. I've heard stories of cheap grease being used, or just cleaning the oil filter and pretending it's a new one.

When you do it, you are 100% sure that it was done.

Yes. I enjoy working on the tractor as much as I do working with it. It's always nice to be very familiar with your equipment.

I agree with if its free, let them do it. Otherwise do it yourself. You can probably be finished in less time than it would take to load it an drop it off at the dealer. And they would probably want to keep it a day or two to work it in.
