Yesterday a friend and I were discussing bidding for things on Ebay, and it made me remember an incident that happened back about 2003:

I knew someone who was always going to auctions and storage unit sales and he would bid on the most inane items he had no use for. One time he called and asked me to help him pick up this 12 foot long stainless steel salad bar on wheels he had bid on, we ended up renting a trailer to haul it to his place. When I inquired what he was going to use it for, he said "I don't know yet, but it was a great buy, I only paid $2.00 for it..."

Skip ahead a few years, he was involved in a messy divorce and had to begin getting rid of his collection of "great buys" that cluttered his basement and garage and pole barn. He had an auction and the salad bar was one of the items that was sold, he spent some time helping the lucky bidder load it on their trailer, and afterwards I asked him what the buyer intended to do with it. He told me he didn't know, "But they only bid a dollar for it...."

I used to go to auctions with a friend from work. I let him store, "temporarily" some stuff here. Mostly 4 and 6 row cultivators, a couple of disk gangs, and a huge stalk cutter. My wife hated the clutter, wanted to get rid of it. Years later, my friend wanted to sell his stuff, my wife immediately bought it, told me to sell it. She made a profit of over 1K!!!! He never made any money selling anything.....

Bid $1.00 for an old farm table once. Didn't really want it, but at $1.00 counldn't go wrong. Won the bid and gave it to my sister. She still has it setting on her back porch.

My Mom bought a box of old buttons at an auction long ago (she sews) and in the bottom of the box were buttons removed from
a WWII Army uniform along with a medallion from the 1936 Nuremberg rally and a German wound badge (their purple heart?).
I still have all of the "collection" but don't display the **** items.
