Do you lower the rpms before engaging the PTO??

I used to have B8200 gear, single stage clutch. When mowing with bush hog when I knew I was going to have to shift, I would use the foot throttle and put hand throttle to about 1/2 then press clutch & let off foot throttle, shift gear, then let out clutch and apply foot throttle at same time.

I don't think anyone has explicitly said that if you have a gear trans you are not expected to throttle up and down while switching between fwd and reverse, especially without foot throttle. This is a separate issue entirely from lowering throttle to engage the pto, which is a good practice on most tractors which are fancy than yours but likely not worth the thought and effort on yours between shifts, or at all, especially if you have the two stage clutch. If you do have two stage it would be beneficial to learn to use it, but I wouldn't consider it detrimental if you slip up occasionally. Sometimes its more important to just get stopped than worry about negligible wear on the clutch. Like when you are heading into your house, pond or getting ready to get taken off the tractor by a branch.

Truer words were never said. I use the foot throttle almost exclusively, only use the hand throttle if I'm mowing a good sized field with gradual corners. When you get that "puckery feeling" like you're going to tip over, drive through the back of the garage, or take the side off the wife's car, then clutch be damned, that's what they're made tough for.

Do you rev your vehicle up before taking it out of park? NO!! Engage the PTO at idle!! No need to disengage before shifting into reverse either, unless equipped with those idiotic lawyer switches.

I have been known to let out on the clutch with it revved up.

BX2660 manual says set engine to 1600 rpm to engage PTO, and that is what I always do.
