Curious how things are with the IFS lifted that high. Did wheel travel increase? How is the handling?

For the price, handling, and overall performance off road and on, I dumped the IFS in my last truck, a Ford F250. I swapped it to a straight axle. I was very happy with it after that. Mine was a simple swap though; everything was a bolt in replacement.

Just curious...

Come on crown, dont be selfish... No one cares about your comfort /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...

I'm really getting tired of this "your killing the plannet" type attitude. We live in a free country to do what we feel nescisary for our lives, one of those perc's is being able to drive what makes us comfortable. We should be able to do so without getting the generalization of "YOU DRIVE AN SUV THERFORE ARE KILLING THE PLANET" from every do gooder out there. The FACT has been pointed out on many of the last 13 pages, that it isnt the SUV that is soley whiping out the future oil resources. Those that own them feel they have a need, dont chastise them, many of them get better than 20mpg. We are in a time where the rest of the world is catching up to us. You have many other countries whos need for oil is growing at extreemely fast rates causing us to feel it. Some of these countries would laugh at our cries of $3.00 gasoline. We still live in a great country where things are beter than anywhere else in this fast changing world. Please get over it or try living somewhere there is a true concern over oil. Maybe we could crack down on all the 25yr old imports that burn more oil than gas?

There I feel a little better. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

RobertN,
Its a totally different IFS on the 2wd, the 4x4 are solid again. Great ride, plenty of room, will tow nearly anything and 20mpg if you drive it right.

I think the rest of the world is still looking at the fact that the US has 5% of the world's population and uses over 25% of the oil produced. They consider this an inequity - I don't.
My feeling is that most of the oil being produced in the world today is because American companies went out and found it, found and developed the technology to both get it out of the ground and refine it as well as use it. Most of those countries very quickly nationalized those American companies efforts - took the technology for their own use, and now complain about us. It's all very wrong IMHO..............

I think it will all work out in the end tho, their economies will change too. And either other sources will be found, other technologies will be developed and so on. I'm not worried about it...........and I really don't care what other people think about what I drive............

Audi allroad - 250 hp twin turbo V-6 gets 16- 22 mpg (our "SUV")
Lexus ES300 - 200 hp V-6 gets 18 to 26 (Daily driver)
Tundra - 285 hp V-8 gets 16 mpg - period!
69 Jag XKE, 250 hp I6, 15 mpg -maybe!

Vin, Lawrence of Arabia was also an American, no? That guy who helped obtain drilling contracts for American companies?

Robert - sorry, I was mistaken. I phoned the local dealer and he said there have been diesel Excursions for several years, but '05 wil be the final year for them. Today I was next to one with the unmistakeable diesel sound. I couldn't find a diesel logo on it, only 'Eddie Bauer'. Maybe I've passed them without recognising them.

And I saw a Hummer on the road today with a commercial logo painted in the windows. The business was a ...

While Ford puts a deisel emblem on the Super Duty's, they have never put them on the Excursion. The same is true for the Triton V10 emblems. Many Excursion owners have corrected this mistake on their own.... as I have. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

RobertN,

Wife absolutely loves it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif My brother and I put it on. It is a 6" Pro-Comp lift with 35" tires.

My brothers Sub has a 4" lift with 33's,,, so naturally mine had to be "bigger". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Handling is great, and the wheel travel seems to be more, but without actually measuring the stock travel, I do not know.

It is very hard for me to get her out of it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif It is her back and forth to work vehicle,,,,,,, thank goodness it is only about a 8 mile round trip. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
