Thanks for the link Phred, I see they are opening a Cabela's in Buda, thats kind of close!
I finally got to speak to my cousin who got bit by a copperhead last fall.
She said she was out in her yard, with sandals, watching some cats play, which is why she said she let her guard down. She said she at first thought she got stung by a bee but then saw the copperhead. The snake bit her on the toe. Since one of their friend had gotten bit by a copperhead on the hand and lost a lot of muscle from the wrist to the elbow they figured they better head to the hospital. She stayed in the emergency room for 24 hours. She said they only observed her and did not give her anything. The hospital told her if she started getting real bad they would have to fly in some anti-venom from Houston (125 miles away). Her leg started swelling all the way up to her knee and she said her foot went from a size 8 to a size 11. After 24 hours she went home and was told to flex her leg several time a day to help the muscle.
When they got back home her husband was going to the garage and the copperhead was waiting for him. The snake slithered into the brush before he could kill it.
After 6 months she is still limping.
She wears shoes outside all the time now.
