Do you tip the Pizza Deliver Man????

One time, we picked it up from the shop and when we got home, we discovered we were given the wrong order. We called them, and they volunteered to send someone over with the right order. When the delivery guy gave us the order, he continued to stand there waiting for a tip. My wife finally asked if there was any charge and he said no we paid the correct amount when we picked it up.

Were we in the wrong, or was he wrong to expect a tip?

If they messed up your order, no need to worry about the tip, in my opinion.

The last time our pizza place messed up our order, we ate it anyway and didn't say anything. Two Friday's later I went in there to pick up pizza. The first thing the owner said was "We missed you last week." The second thing she said was, "I think we shorted you some sauce and breadsticks two weeks ago" and she gave us the order for free. What a memory! I had forgotten about it. Needless to say, that is one of the main reasons we keep going back... great service(it also helps that the food is pretty good, too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ).

I saw a talk show a while back discussing wait people and tipping. The wait people were irate that customers would leave lousy tips if the food was bad or if it took forever to get it sreved. They maintained that it wasn't their fault if the kitchen made a bad meal or couldn't get it out quick enough and they should be tipped solely on the quality of their service. I guess that would also apply to the delivery guy who has nothing to do with actually taking the order and making it correctly.

In my opinion, if you work for a place that has a habit of serving bad food or has overly long preparation time that it is your obligation to quit and find a place to work where this isn't the case.

I always tip the pizza guy a couple bucks.

How much do y'all tip when you go to a buffet??

Jeff,
When I go to a buffet I always leave $2 from my spouse and I for the person who clears the dirty dishes off the table, they earn minimum wage for their job and most work hard.

About two years ago we were staying in a ritzy Best Western in downtown Florida that offered a free breakfast buffet for their guests. It was packed and they had one man working to seat people and clear the tables during our stay. We always tipped him after our meal and I was amazed that so few of the other guests did. It seemed like the proper thing to do.

When we do go out, regardless of whether it's to a "fancy" place or just one of the local eateries, we always tip at least 20%. But if the service was exceptional, or the staff other than our server did what we believe to be an excellent job, not only do we tip those folks also, but we always speak to the manager and make sure that (s)he knows how pleased we were with the service and what an excellent job their employees were doing. Sometimes a compliment can do just as much, or more, than the monetary tip. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I might add that it pays off in the long run. You can bet that those folks will remember you, and they won't back slide on the quality of their service for you whenever you come in. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I normally tip the pizza delivery man between 15% & 20% depending on the whether (rainy nasty & snowy, a little more). I pretty much do the same thing in a restaurant, but it is relative. If the waiter or waitress does a horrible job, the get very little (if you leave them nothing, they may think you forgot, but leaving them very little may help them recognize their service was not up to par). If they do an outstanding job, they get more money, after all a tip is something extra.

So, you think that the $2.35/hr salary (give or take) is enough money for a waiter/waitress to make?

TIPS: To Insure Prompt Service. I don't consider it EXTRA.
