I pick the logs up with my loader and hold them over a trailer or wagon, then cut them to firewood length right there,

Then I move my splitter to the side of the trailer and roll the rounds right onto the splitters beam,

When the splits come off the end of the splitter, they can go on the ground, in boxes, or wherever else you want them,

This eliminates most, if not all of the lifting you have to do when making firewood!

Thanks... It's a 30-06, I've owned it since the early 80's.

It's the perfect tractor for the splitter, plenty of power, just sips fuel and heavy enough to move wagons or whatever else needs moving.

Nice, that would be a nice addition to my D7007. Wish mine didn't have such a large turning radius. Mine sips fuel too and really only use it for mowing and haying.

during the winter I cut them right in place there is snow underneath so no risk to hit dirt with the tip of the chain, my old man (i often go with him) goes in the active lumber cuts and we buck them right on the side of the lumber road (we have a permit and the operator brings piles of tamarack or birch on the side roads for us on Friday) then throw them in the trailer, we fit two cord in the trailer, one or two load each Sunday for six weekends and he has his fire wood for the next winter he has three years fire wood so 36 to 40 cord … in April and may we split it re-filled the basement and stack it before the mosquitos come out …

sound easy but it ain’t

now i know this is probably not a option.

what work well is placing lots of 4” diameter logs at 2’ interval parallel from each other then you pile your trees in the opposites direction and you cut the pile … having these logs at the base prevent your chain to hit the ground and your logs to move while cutting it so your logs stay straight and it dosent wedging your saw ….

if you are doing firewood for “fun” and to have wood for fires here and there it’s alright but if you need a set amount it simply time consuming and hard work there is no easy way unless you have a processor like these guys have, the second one is pretty sick … my buddy made one on his excavator the only time he touch his logs it’s to put it in the furnace and that is the only easy way to make fire wood.
