It is difficult for average person to apply a large load to a post in the water. Depending on type of soil you are driving post into ,the driving load may need to be higher than anticipated load due to driving modifying soil
Right you are but Op was flippant so as I said "Simplistic questions deserve simple answers so here you go." Had he said what his experince, capabilities are and asked for suggestions,I can suggest ways best suited to those. I took him at face value. People think they can ask how to do anything even when they have no experience and presto, they get benifit of 20 years experince and maybe 2 years trade school in a tidy package with 25 or less words. When asked what their profession is and if they can tell me in 25 words or less how I can do their job,of course they can't,their occupation is special and requires dedication, ability and time to learn.

I have been looking for a better way to build a dock. I think this has some promise but it isn't cheap.

Sorry to sound flippant jaxs. I asked an honest question. Perhaps the only honest answer in 25 words or less is to 'hire out a builder with dock building experience'.

As for other experience, I spent 5 years doing manual labor until I graduated from HS, then running a printing operation while in college, then accounting (Controller) for a large chemical manufacturer. Final 12 years in project management for a NASA subcontractor.

Hobby experience for the entire time was in auto mechanics and woodworking. Yes, I have a substantial knowledge of woodworking, having grown up with a father that also spent 40+ years as a union carpenter. I do have a nice array of woodworking tools to go along with a lot of woodworking experience. (None of which entails dock building!)

That said, and me being well past 80, perhaps the "honest answer" is the right answer?

Had you revealed your age, ability to work with wood (and supervise unskilled to preform) ,how much elivation of pond surface fluxuates from highest to lowest and asked for one of easiest, inexpensive, most durable, longest lasting or other important requirment and most important of all whether you plan diy or contracting out you would get usable information. As it is,you got reccomendations ranging all over the place because there was no criteria for the project. If it's any consolation,50% of questions asked here follow the same pattern. I liken it to a kid that found an old football then became bored playing by himself. Walking down the road he sees a room full of monkeys and tosses the ball through the window to see how the monkeys react. To his delight every monkey in the room wants procession of the ball and a game of keep-away springs to life. I honestly believe if someone asked how to get a B-29 Superfortress airborne some people would Google it and attempt telling them how to go about it without as much as asking if they ever flew anything bigger than a kite.
