It isn't about anything as petty as "Laws" and "Nations", or even a "Constitution" and "Rights", it is an issue of Global survival.
Yes, I do believe in the Al Gore message.
Yes, it is doom and gloom, which is WHY these things have to be done.
No, they won't catch everybody and shut them all down.
Sure, there will be inconsistencies and apparent contradictions, one size won't fit all.
Of course there will be costs, even economic "pain".

Just like "one more cigarette" or "one more drink", we can never say which one killed him, but all of them together did.
ONE outboard 2-stroke engine won't kill ALL the fish, but enough of them will seriously impact fish populations and their health, etc.

Not that I want CA or the US to pollute less so that other States or Countries can pollute more.

As an "Engineer by training" I would have hoped that you would know a year to be 24x365 (approx) and NOT 24x7x365 - - I do.

Medical Lingo... 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year... at least this is the required format in reporting data to agencies regarding hours of operation...

I don't know of anyone desiring more pollution... my point is common sense appears to be in short supply...

Case in fact... CA mandatory MTBE gasoline additive requirement has poisoned numerous municipal water wells... cost millions in damaged fuel systems and a rash of car fires because older fuel lines leaked.

Just think of the impact of forced retirement and the environmental cost of scrappage... not to mention the cost of producing new equipment.

I'm responsible for Hospital Emergency Power Systems... there was a time where reliability was foremost... now it has taken a back seat.

Cummins builds a good power plant... at least I've never had a bad one... The last one I bought, the ONAN Cummins rep said they still service units from the 1960's... my guess is not for long...

The specs on those 1/2 ton diesels look mighty good. I generally keep my vehicles 10 years but if those 1/2 ton diesels are in the market in 5 or 6 years and have been running for 3 to 4 years without major issues I will be tempted to trade. 20% more mpg than my 5.4 L on my F150 with diesel costing about 10% less here more than makes up for the additional maintenence and the upfront cost for me. I drive 30 to 35k km per year. Those miles rack up pretty dang fast.

Has diesel fuel been cheaper than gas for you Canadian's all along or just recently? Diesel costs have been lower than gas costs for perhaps a year or so.

Diesel had always been lower than gas but we had a period of geez, I think eight years or so where gas was cheaper.

Diesel was only cheaper again for a few months here and it is currently $0.08 higher than gas now.

Gas is running ~2.47-2.52 here with disel about ten or fifteen cents less.

I've always known diesel to be about 10 or so cents cheaper per litre. There was a period of time - around last fall and winter I think - when gas prices were peaking - diesel was more expensive than gas then. I read an article about a couple diesel refineries being closed as a result of some planned maintenance and one more going offline when they did not expect it that caused the shortage then. Seems to me that we are back to what I *think* is normal for up here - which is diesel is about 10-12 cents cheaper per liter and price volatility is much lower.

Around here its within 2-3 cents with gas being just a few cents more, really a wash.
