I had a customer in today who drove a new dodge ram diesel.I have one too so we started with the dodge bonding thing... you know how it goes. So this guy asks me if I know the ignition secret? By this time im looking around to see if Im being watched or what is going on. So he tells me to turm my ignition switch on & off 3 times real quick and look at my odometer, so I do it and some words come across the little screen.I wasnt wearing my reading glasses (so dont ask) pleaseSo this customer says to me that I just activated around 15-20% more horsepower !!!! that all dodges have a built in chip and all you have to do is turn the key that way EACH TIME that you want to turn it on huh ????So Im asking all you dodge ram diesel owners to try this & report back as to what happens when you drive it.My truck is loaded with a trailer and tractors, plus is almost 100 degrees today so Im staying put for a while. But I sure cant wait to try it, unless he was pulling my leg?Ernie

I answered my own question, all it does is reset the codes, no horse power no bells & whistles, ..... just codesYou can bet his tractor price just jumped 10% if he comes back !!!

And if you rub your stomach with your right hand while swinging a dead chicken over your head on the third tuesday of an even numbered month, you're a lock to win the next Powerball drawing. ;)

I'm a Dodge diesel owner too. Just resets the codes. No GIANT HP increase.

:D I'm a Ford guy too, but, my first thought is that his truck might have a problem and runing in Failure Effects Mode.. Resetting the codes(never heard of a key cycle doing it though) might just restore the PCM to a factory setting(more power) until it learns it still has a problem, then he has to cycle the key again:D

I don't have any knowledge on the ignition trick, but Last week Vickie and I went RV'ing to Cherokee NC. For me it is 185 miles due west on I-40 and that entails a good bit of hills, and then we get to Black Mt. which is an 8% grade for about 4 miles.
My son and I have twin Dodge 3500 SRW 2004.5, 4x4 Cummins, auto. He bought an Edge Juice chip with the pillar mount gauges. He has been telling me how much more power it has, and being the dad, I just let him talk. Any way he came to the house before we left and put his chip in my truck and set it on the middle setting, which is 40 HP and 100 #s of torque. I hooked my 11,000 lb 5th wheel up and away to the mountains we went. I hadn't gotten 5 miles from home when I told Vickie I was buying a chip.
I set the cruise on 68, and it didn't drop any going to the mountains and never kicked out of overdrive 1 single time. At the bottom of Blk. Mt I hit the tow/haul button to kick it out of OD and proceded up Blk. Mt. and could excelerate anywhere I wanted. I hit the tow/haul button again to see if it would go back into OD and sure enough it did. That is pulling 11,000 lbs up an 8% grade. I kicked it back out od OD because I was concerned about it running hot, cause it was only turning 1750 rpm's.
I have heard lots of storys on how much power a chip will give such as it will light up the back tires taking off, or it will get 5 MPG more ect. I couldn't see any great difference in how it drove or take-off speed, but there is a ton of difference in how much more torque it has.
Off the soapbox now, Later, Nat

It will give you 90 more HP if you buy the Edge Juice module and install it and then turn the ignition 3 times. If you do it without plunking down the $650 for the Egde chip it will just show your codes. That is how I got mine to gain the HP. ( just kidding) but hey, if you aren"t sure just ask.
Another real tip however is do the key thing 3 times and hold in on your trip button for about 5 seconds or so and it will show you your hour meter. ( no joke)

if you want to know what the codes ( if any mean) this is a good source www.dieseltruckresource.com

Seriously, I have no idea why anybody would want to jeapordize their warranty for a little extra power. Yes, this Cummins engine is de-tuned from the factory, but it's for a good reason. It'll put out like 900ft/lbs of torque if you massage it with a cheater box, but that's when stuff starts breaking.

Yes, a cheater box WILL leave codes in the computer as soon as you unhook the harness to install it. Some of these include:

DTC P Code Description
124 P 0234 Turbo boost limit exceeded
146 P 0217 Decreased engine performance due to
engine overheat condition
361 P 0254 Fuel injection pump fuel valve current too high
363 P0251 Fuel injection pump mechanical failure fuel
valve feedback circuit
364 P 1689 No communication between ECM and
injector pump module
375 P 0602 ECM fuel calibration error

The one I see quite a bit is the "no communication between ECM and injector pump module". But those guys are already out of warranty and they could give a rats if they blow it up or not. Oh, and usually there's two strips of velcro (or remnants of the glue strips) on top of the fuse box under the hood.

If you are out of warranty, it doesn't matter. But you can't sneak it by a dealership (a good one anyways).
