It seems nobody understands what I'm reading in my 2001 warranty book

2.6 Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty
A. When it Begins
If your truck is equipped with a Cummins Diesel Engine, the Cummins Diesel Engine Limited Warranty begins at the end of the 3/36 Basic Limited Warranty period, and covers the cost of repairing those parts of your truck engine listed that are defective in materials, workmanship, or factory preparation.

If the warranty started at day one, why does it not say so?
In reguard to what else can go wrong besides low fuel pressure, there is a brass sleeve installed in the pump, it was supposed to work better, but don't. Now they are installing a steel sleeve. Also the computer on the vp44 is prone to being defective. One company states their rebuilt vp44's have a version of the computer Cummins (not Dodge) installed on FedEx vehicles. Cummins has stepped up and replace this bad design on other non-Dodge trucks including School buses. JC
I have been a member of Turbo Diesel Register since I bought the truck with 9,800 miles on it in 03.

There is no "Cummins warranty". Dodge buys the engines from Cummins at a discount and assumes the warranty costs. The engine and internally lubricated parts are suppposed to be covered by Dodge for 100,000 miles, don't remember what the time limit is.

You can't take your Dodge truck to a Cummins repair facility for warranty work unless authorized by Dodge in advance. Some Dodge facilities employ techs that have some diesel trainning (hesitate to call them mechanics), some will pull a guy off a Neon and let him fix your truck, other Dodge dealers have a good relationship with the local Cummins shop and send Cummins work their way.

Good Luck,
Dave

I believe Cummins had a service bulletin where they were installing a fuel pressure switch on the supply side , and would set a check engine light if Fuel Pressure went below a certain point.

of course a gage would be just as good if you watched it.

Perhaps a link to the original warranty post would help others to understand. I have yet to have anyone show me where what you're reading is wrong.

You may NOT be a lawyer...but you obviously stayed at a Holiday Inn Express...:D

Update time,
I gave up calling Chrysler Customer Care and sent a letter with copies of my receipts. I did not have it in me to fight this and just prayed about it. I got a call from them and a check to cover all but $300 of the repair. JC

That code and symptom are usually results of low fuel pressure. As an ex-dodge tech, I can tell you that the dealer techs have no access to internal parts for the pumps. The lift pump that is mounted on the side of the engine simply was not designed to pull fuel from that distance. Chrysler did come out with a lift pump that is in-tank like the gas engines. Not sure about the longevity of it though. A good diesel shop can go through it as said before. Glad you came out a better than you expected.

I new about the low fuel pressure killing the vp44 so I put a few pressure guage in the truck a few months after I bought it and I still keep 11# on the original lift pump. I never expected to lose the pump to another failure. JC
