Does a new tractor use oil?
I have a DK45SE that is my first tractor and first diesel engine of any kind. I purchased the tractor new in June and it has 42 hours on it now.
I check the fluid levels each time I use the tractor.
Today when I went to fire it up I noticed the oil level was down some from when I used it last week.
Some particulars:
The tractor starts easily. It has some clatter and tap when cold that go away when its warmed up. My routine is to let it sit and idle until warm before I drive it or operate the hydraulics. It runs great after warmup.
I did get a blast of light smoke on start up today that lasted for a split second. First time for the smoke. We had a very cold night this week with some snow and sleet. Not sure if that could cause that or not.
I used the tractor for 5-6 hours last week digging postholes. First time I have used it for that task. Since the pto speed needs to be pretty low for the auger and I had to dig out the holes drop the poles and tamp the dirt the tractor spent almost the whole time at idle or low rpms.
Any thoughts?
