Does anybody follow \"safe operation\" suggestions?

While doing my 400hr. maintenance today I was reading the manual. The first day I drove my Kubota I was in "violation" since I hadn't actually read the entire manual, or even all of the yellow pages in the front. I can honestly say I have never operated the tractor exactly as they suggest for safe operation in the Kubota manual for my L series. Does anybody here think they have?
Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to make light of safety. I do wear my seatbelt and do have a ROPS on the tractor. I just have to admit that I don't follow the safety rules to the T. I'd like to know if anybody is so safety minded as to always operate the tractor as suggested by the manufacturer.

Of course, I do. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. (In case any company lawyers read this...)

Besides not familiarizing yourself with the manual.. what is it that you aren't doing? As for seat belt / rops.. etc... I'f I'm on my tractor, and it is running.. my seat belt is on..... and I'f on on or near a road.. like cutting a ROW.. my SMV emblem is up, and the flashers are on.

Re: Does anybody follow \"safe operation\" suggestio

The first thing I did was read the book. Alot of good, common sense safety info there. For me safety has always been the numero uno priority.

Alright, Alright, Just as I suspected. Here we go.
Operator's Manual Kubota Tractor "L" series:

#4. Parking the tractor (page 3 of Safe Operation)

1. Disengage the PTO, lower all implements, place all control levers in their neutral positions, set the parking brake, stop the engine, and remove the key.
2. Make sure that the tractor has come to a complete stop before dismounting.

Didn't someone take engine cooldown into account.

I didn't use to think a whole lot about it. But now my tractor has a turbocharger and I do give it some cool down time before I shut it off. Don't want to coke the bearing. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sounds like pretty standard stuff to me. Have you jumped off any moving tractors lately?

Re: Does anybody follow \"safe operation\" suggestio

Who has taken the key out of the tractor everytime they park it?

I leave my HST in gear most of the time after shutting it off and I rarely set the parking brake on level ground.

I have been known to get off the tractor while the engine is running, with it in neutral and the parking brake on.

I will say, if you have disengaged the PTO, lowered all the implements, placed all control levers in their neutral positions, set the parking brake, stopped the engine, and removed the key, and the tractor is still moving. You're on one heck of a hill!
