Does anybody have a batwing mower and a compact tractor?

Why do you suggest that mower over the two that I picked out? I figured "mine" would leave a better cut and may be a better choice since I'm not clearing fields.

We don't tend to let it grow for more than a week or two because tall grass brings more bugs around here. Also, while this might sound crazy I actually like mowing. :)

The BW12 will leave near as nice of a cut, will work better with your hp, is cheaper, and will be easier to maintain.

I have a 70hp diesel tractor and in tall grass I have to drop to 1st gear and wide open throttle and even at that I sometimes have to feather the clutch and keep the RPMs up until I get out of the tall stuff.

In my opinion my 70HP tractor is the minimum I would use with a batwing mower.

Have you considered towing a self powered mower offset to one side behind your current mower?

For example,
FC1966BS Swisher® 19 HP 66" Electric Start Finish Cut Trail Mower - Trail Mowers

Adds 5' of cut with a 6" overlap for $3K. Puts very little load on your towing machine, only rolling resistance.

I've only seen somebody using one of those once and I was shocked at how poor the results where. He was going too fast and they blades where dull, so I'm sure it could have turned out a lot better, but what really left an impression on me was just how it just bounced around all over the place as he pulled it. You would have to pull it at walking speed to keep it steady. Then there was the noise. I heard it long before I ever saw him out there using it!!!!

agreed. I had a craftsman once. .. 1997 or so.... It was one that was leftover from mowing season and pushed to the back outside wall of a store during winter. it had a broke palate and 200' of contractor grade anti kink hose laying on it loose, that someone returned. ( not sure why they returned the hose?? )

I bought it super cheap. It ran fine, though did have the carb go out ( under warranty ) the next year.

I think I used it 2x and then sold it the next year for just a little less than I had in it. and was glad to see it go.

it was too wide for a 4x8 lawn trailer, meaning I had to use my 16' flatbed car hauler to move it.. but it always hung on ramps.. ended up being a huge PITA instead of a good idea. any thing other than concrete flat land was not fun.. and it pulled hard on a rider, and couldn't keep up with a (real)tractor when cutting.

I'd avoid them..
