Why Land Rover quit sponsoring the Camel Trophy event ?

Might have something to do with Ford's (and I am not positive on all the paper work) purchase of Land Rover. As far as I understand, Ford owns them now so they might have decided to either drop the sponsorship or maybe something else had something to do with it? Later.

I belive it because Land Rover Doesn't Acutally own the name or rights to "Camel Trophy" someone else does. I think this other entity lost interest in the acutal race and is just marketing the name.
Land Rover has started a new contest the "Land Rover TREK" but i think its only open to dealers.

I think Land Rover is now sponsoring their own "G4 Challenge" - which is a "multi-sport" event (driving, running, orienteering, kayaking, etc.) that will pit teams from different countries against one another. I suspect that they want to run the competition themselves (vs. Camel Trophy where they provided vehicles).

A friend of mine tried to qualify for the "American Team" at an event in the Nevada desert" - he thought it was pretty tough. Lots of sleep deprivation....

I purchased some Camel Trophy videos and it IS a "multi sport" event same as G-4 challenge,which I did not care for...I was not familiar with Camel Trophy,I assumed it was strictly off roading and when I watched the videos I seen the kayaking,bicycle racing etc...and I could care less about that stuff,just kids,heck I could drive as good if not better off road then what I seen on the videos..it cheapened the whole concept as far as I am concerned,like synchronized swimming in the Olympics...talk about dumb. A while back I ordered a few Camel Trophy stickers/decals from a Camel Trophy sponsored web page(In Great Britian) and I was ripped off,I purchased through paypal and never got the stickers,no answers to my E-mails/phone calls...which made me think since Land Rover parted ways with Camel Trophy and Camel Trophy is now defunct.

I have the camel trophy kalimantan 96 video.. I was disappointed also too much time spent on the "special tasks" and building bridges and not enough driving..

you might try some place like British Atlantic for Land Rover stuff the camel tophy suff may be hard to find. I think its pretty much dead at the present time.

Aren't the tobacco companies supposed to quit sponsoring sporting events as part of their lawsuit settlement?
