Does Roundup go bad?

I have a half gallon jug of RoundUp that's going on twelve years now. Still seems to kill effectively. Last year I used it to kill out the sprouts of a wild rose bush that I mowed down.

Same here. I scored a free jug of it well over a decade ago and it's still just as potent as when it was new. I keep it in my heated garage and it's never froze so I can't offer any information on that aspect.

Going back to my post on page one of this thread, I store it in my shed where it goes anywhere from 95 degrees in summer to below zero in winter. I just shake it up before I mix it and no problems.

That's interesting. There used to be a section on not letting it freeze. That'll save me from having to haul and keep warm every fall. Good news.

EDIT--In checking the label and other comments I might have it figured out. It seems the feared risk is that it will expand sufficiently to cause the container to crack and the product to spill out where it can cause other mischief. I guess I'm still going to haul mine back in a warm area for winter. No big deal.

Hey - WHO read labels anyhow!!!! My jug is in an unheated log cabin. Only God know how many times that stuff has frozen/thawed. Still looks like maple syrup and kills. I don't think I'll be buying Round Up when this stuff is all gone. There has to be something just as effective and isn't glyphosate.

Same here, a 2.5 gallon jug lasts me about 10 years, outside in the shed. Never seemed to fail to work. Although it almost never gets 20 below zero. About 25 years ago we had a minus 30 blast for a few days, but that was it. Some zero, minus 2 to 6 days.

Roundup does not kill as fast as 2-4D does. If you are getting real fast kill with Roundup normally is a burn down and not a real kill. Real kill takes longer, burn down often kills leaves and not the plant.

All 2-4d does for me is make the weeds grow.

CMV... I say patience. Give it 10 days. It helps if the grass/weeds are actively growing.

If you want something different than round up look for Liberty. It works much much faster than round up but you would have to go to a AG retailer. Rural King and TSC do not have it.

I am a fan of a product called Ground Clear. That stuff kills fast, effects are noticed in 24-48hours, if not sooner.

I have found glyphosate (round-up or generic) stored as a concentrate lasts indefinitely with no reduction in performance. Once it is diluted with water it does loose a bit of effectiveness over long periods of time (like a year), but not much. The biggest problem with storing it in diluted form is that crud will develop in the mixture that can clog your spray equipment. It might be the surfactant I put in the dilute that forms the crud though, I am not sure.
