Does this hose need replacement?

One of the hoses on the minihoe got roughed up while tearing away brush/saplings a few weeks ago and I didn't notice it until recently because the nicks are hidden unless you lift up the hose.

Now I've used the minihoe pretty hard (20+ hrs) since then and the hose seems to be holding up fine. My question is to the experienced hydraulic people as to whether they would preemptively replace this hose? The PT425 has about 100hrs of which maybe half were with the minihoe.

I would just go and get a spare and keep it close by. It looks like just the rubber is damaged.

Since they say a pinhole spray of hydraulic fluid can pentrate the skin, my answer would be, "replace it." That is my non-expert opinion.

As was already pointed out, just have a spare handy. We have run hundreds of hours on hoses that look like that. As long as there is no visible leakage and it is just the rubber I see no problem.

They also make a wrap to help protect the hose. Could be a spiral wrap or a sleeve. Most any hyd shop would have these. I use them on my steering cyl hoses to help prevent chaffing.

If you're going to buy a spare, simply replace it, don't wait for a failure and a possible hot oil bath.

My Branson has those. The mechanic who replaced the steering hoses under recall commented on them. He said they were an OSHA requirement. If he was right, I've wondered why PT doesn't have to use them. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Can I have the old hose when you replace it? LOL I would use it as long as the brade is not damaged. The brade is where the strength is.

Its alright to get a spare if you want too, but I wouldn't replace a hose until it starts leaking. The pressure hoses have a rubber center surrounded by braided wire and then the outer jacket. The braided wire reinforces the inner rubber tube and keeps it from busting. If the wire braids are frayed I probably would be making plans on replacing it.
