Ford 4100
I want to believe that my loader will float. But I don't know anything about hydraulics. This is on my Ford 4100, just some random old triple valve on top of the tranny. Loader is hooked in through the rear remotes. No names or numbers on it, and no one around here has seen one like it.

Today I took it apart. That valve is the one that goes to the loader. The other two valves will spring back to center -- this valve that I took apart will stick on either end of the throw. Which is why I was thinking maybe it should be able to float... otherwise I thought maybe there was some crud in it gumming it up, but it's clean and tight inside. No slop in the spool at all.

I feel like the two small ports on the valve would let oil bypass, but like I said I'm just guessing.

I was also thinking -- previous owner had added quick connects underneath to make it easier to remove loader. Could tee-ing in like this screw up the circuit?

Can't help on float or not. Being a remote valve it's probably just detents to keep circuit live for running something with continuous flow requirement.....like a logsplitter that has it's own valve.

Regarding the tee'ing....hard to say if that's an issue without knowing where all 3 hoses go.

In general...on an open center system, the only tees are for tank lines OR for controlling more than one cylinder at the same time. For example....loader cylinders are teed together so they both raise and lower the same

Float would be on the loader valve that raises the arms.

Does it have a mechanical trip to dump the bucket or another valve to curl the bucket?

There's a valve for the loader, a valve for curl, and an extra remote on the rear.

Shove the loader valve hard forward past the detent, it will stay there in float.

When I was doing that it would just keep putting down pressure and pick the front end off the ground

I push the loader valve past detent and then let go of the lever. My bucket is now in float. If I keep the valve all the way forward - by pushing/holding it there - it will raise my front end off the ground.

Looking at the picture of the spool, I would say it does not have float and not much controllability either. Float spools normally will have a fourth land and I only see three in the picture. There are also no metering notches in that spool so it is essentially on/off. I would hate to try to set something in the bed of a pickup with that loader. :)

Float would be on the loader valve that raises the arms.
Exactly. The 'float' detent on most loader joystick valves will be fully forward and will have a physical detent that you can 'feel'.
