Does your tractor shut down when ya leave the seat

On my TC18 Hydro, you can't get off with it in gear. Must be in Neutral and park brake set and both PTO not engaged. Otherwise it shuts down.

not only that but i have this fear if i leave it in gear even with hst and get off to do something, thet the hydro will creep, never has happened, but i take no chance so always take it out of gear when i get off. call me paranoid /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The hydro is hand operated...aint got no "hydro pedal"!
Actually, I have two STX 38 lawn tractors. One is a hydro transmission and the other a gear transmission.
With the gear transmission tractor, I can get off without setting the parking brake but still leave the engine running. However, on the hydro lawn tractor, the parking brake must be set to get off the seat.

I suppose I could do the jumper thing on the seat, (I have the schematics and understand them) but I am not a fan of defeating engineered/designed safety systems. I admit that John Deere is still smarter than I am....

Heheheeh, but if I run over myself with a lawn tractor, then I must be "dumber than a sack of hammers.....". It aint happened yet, but it could!!!!!

That is interesting, I can leave my rear PTO engaged and get off.

You're right Jim,I can leave it with the PTO engaged. Guess I was thinking about starting..... it won't start with either PTO engaged.

Most of the modern "CUTS", require the seat to be raised, (tilted up on the steering wheel),the brakes set and locked before you can engage the PTO without someone being in the operators seat. This feature allows for the use of a generator and other equipment. I don't think I will ever "BY-PASS" any safety switches. If you ever experience a roll over and survive you will appreciate safety switches and probably join my club. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a friend whose brother in law was working with a skid steer type unit that creeped up on him while he had his back to it. It pinned him against a dirt pile. He died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital. Left a wife and four young children. If he had buried the bucket in the dirt, pointed it away from his work area, or just shut it off, none of this might have happened. We'll never know.
