Dogs and Coyotes

Our fear is that one of our dogs will take off after a coyote and never come back. They are big dogs, but you never know what will happen out in the woods. I've lost multiple cats to coyotes. People dump them at the gate, I take them in, then one day, the cat is gone. I've found tracks close to the house, seen them close to the house and took this picture of one about 20 feet from my front door. <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=501318"/>

Wow, what a magnificent looking animal! (OK, except for those creepy yellow eyes.)

speaking of coyotes - my buddy spotted this up the street from my place this morning.

look like a (ragged) coyote?

i've seen them around from time to time and, as my profile pic might suggest, am not particularly fond of them hanging around.

Not sure where the attached picture is from. Just an internet findcoyote.jpg

I saw a red coyote here a few years ago. I didn't know they came in red. We don't have red foxes here, had to be a coyote. They look different anyway.

My neighbor has 4 catahoulas and he let them run free. Those dogs have killed many coyotes in my area. Nowadays, the coyotes stay far away from us. I used to see them walking about every where at dusk. Ever since the neighbor moved in 4 years ago with his dogs, there are no coyotes or raccoons around my house. It's so nice to no longer have to worry about the raccoons tipping my garbage cans and tearing up my garbage bags.

We had a few like that around here the last 4 or 5 years and just thought they had mange but a neighbor shot one and took it by the vets who take scrapings and said it was not mange but he didn't know what it was. Of course he wouldn't take it inside to do further testing so we still don't know.
I have a game camera set up and have watched a progression of this condition on a couple of them and it seems to always start at the tail then cover the rest of the body.
