Dogs and neighbors.

Never let a dog be a measure of your testosterone!

I mean she's an active dog, the wireless like I have for the big dog is only a 100ft perimeter max, which is fine for him since most of the time he just sleeps under the porch. She likes to hunt my entire property. **** she doesn't even go over to my folks place that joins up to mine. She just like to hunt the tree lines around the perimeter of my land until called elsewhere.

The Pyrenees would show her how to roam if it wasn't fenced. Those dogs invented "travel". :)

Well, in my experience, I've never met a dumb dog, but have met a many dumb dog owners. And I'm not kidding.

Very well stated my friend.

I keep working on expanding fences. Eventually I hope to have entire property fenced and sub fenced so the dogs have the run of the place or designated area. I don't want my dogs running loose. There are simply too many idiots out there that may take a shot at them just because or the real idiots who can't tell a deer from a cow might shoot at them thinking they are coyotes. Plus, I don't feel like I'm being a good neighbor if my dog is pestering you.

prichard. I wish I had dog owning neighbors with that mentality. Pestering also includes barking from afar, if you ask me. Funny how some city people move to the wilderness, stay mostly inside, but think their dogs can go out and exercise themselves.

Keep your dog in your yard. I am surprised your dog returns after being shot with the bb gun. Yes, it was a coward move to approach the wife. That type of behavior says alot about him. In this part of the country that action would probably take this little problem to another level. However I doubt he would have approached if there was not some validity in his claim. Personally I would approach this guy, let him know that you are aware of the problem and you will do everything possible to remedy. And to let him know that if he has a problem in the future to discuss it with you not your wife. It's not about testosterone or anything else other than it's how men are supposed to handle things. At least it's what I think. But this is lower Alabama and we're real respectful to our wives and our neighbors wives and understand that the respect reciprocates.

My thoughts...

Based on the neighbor's visit with your wife, you owe him some clarification.
1. It's your dog. He needs to talk to YOU about it, not your wife. Period. Coming over while you're gone to give your wife **** is not acceptable.

2. Let him know you'd like to re-train it to stay in your yard, but his kids keep calling it over. Ask him to talk with his kids. Offer that they can come over to your yard and play with it if they'd like, but that they should simply ask first... IMO, a kid that'll shoot a dog with a BB gun to get it to go away after they call it over is just as likely to call it over when a car is coming just for the "excitement"...

3. Make sure he sees you working with your dog so it stays on your side of the road. I'd suggest using pin flags temporarily, or a feature of your yard if one exists, to keep it back from the road a good ways... Don't just call the road the boundary. Re-enforce the dog's awareness of the boundary every chance you get.

4. Try to be friendly toward the neighbor. Wave, say hello, wander over and chat. Become his friend, to some extent, if possible.

If that goes downhill, it is either because you are not being nice, or because your neighbor is one of those people who just needs to bleed out. If the latter is the case, it's time for a fence. Sounds like it wouldn't take much of a fence to keep your dog in...
Good Luck

From the sounds of the neighbor and his kids, it brings to mind a favorite quote from Mr. Lahey on Trailer Park Boys: "The s#*^apple doesn't fall far from the s#*^tree."

I sincerely don't want to sound flippant here, But... Your dog needs to be confined to Your property. Kids don't know better, and it sounds like their parents know even less. Nip it now, contain your pet before you lose it.
