Thats why you should always have a loaded gun in the house ready to go. Its sad to say but most police act the same way they did in this situation. Police act like they dont want to get involved or take sides its really sad. As for me and my family were heavily armed and will defend ourselves and animals with deadly force.

Owner of goats should make appointment to see the chief also view written proof that the officers were indeed following policy...also make dog owners pay for damages plus!!

Little confused...the lady was in harm way by dog that will attack,and no action taken...hmmm.

Not sure about rules and regs. of the town,but here if officer see..example dog chasing deer he has the right to put the dog down.

It sounds like the battle of the nitwits.

You have the goats owner who thinks that the goats lives are not worth the chance that putting the dogs down would "be worth it", (as far to the "legality" of shooting them) and then the woman has no clue where the ammo is (if they have any). She probably would of killed the goats anyway while trying to shoot the dogs even if she did find the ammo.

Then you have the dogs owners. They have no clue as to the breed of dog they have and thier "traits", and the dogs apparently have gotten off thier property numerous times. Once again, the "great" responsible pet owner.

I live out in the country. In April 2005, 4 dogs killed 21 of my 28 goats over a period of 10 days. I called the county sheriff only to learn they could do nothing other than set a live trap. I called fish and wildlife only to learn that I have a dog problem and they cannot do anything to help. Had it been a coyote, they would have set out poison baits.
Isn't it ironic that a coyote that kills to survive will be killed for that. But dogs, that kill only for the sake of killing are left alone.
Now, I don't bother to call anyone. If I see a dog on my property, it doesn't leave my property and no one is the wiser.
I'm sorry your daughters had to see that.

No suggesting that cityfolk start shooting dogs. Just saying what happens in the country. We get the dogs dumped on us by the cityfolk because they don't want to pay the $40 or $50 fee to drop off and unwanted dog at a pet shelter. Cityfolk have a different weapon to use,,,,,lawsuit. You usually know who owns the offending pooch.

Crossbows,[a good one],,,,they are plenty good enough to kill a little ole dog at 40 yards,,,pretty quiet,,,and if you can shoot a scoped rifle,,it don't take much practice,,,,the line between pet and varmit,,is a fine one,,,your pet,might be a varmit to me,and visa versa,,,if a strange dog is chasing or killing your animals,,,he has now become a varmit,,right up there with coyotas,coons,,foxes,BEAVERS,etc,,,no law against killing varmits that I know of,,if you can't shoot a gun cause you live in a town limit,,there are other options,,and crossbows would be a good choice....thingy
