Dogs in Lowes Store

Sounds like Rural King needs some working Rat Terriers and Wiener Dogs living in the store.

I had a small dog, (16 pound West Highland Terrier), when I was younger.

She was extremely well behaved. And, would sit quietly, in the seat of the shopping cart, while I shopped in HD, or Lowes.

One day, an associate stopped me while entering, and said, "Only assistance animals were allowed".

I said with a straight face, "This dog is an assistance animal, she is a lumber picking dog". :D

The associate called his manager, and then said, "Okay". As long as she remains in the cart, and doesn't cause any problems.

Unfortunately, most people don't seem to have much control over their animals. Relieving themselves in the store, is a good example of that.

I'll admit to not reading every post, but I'll mention that under Federal law, there's no documentation required for a service dog. A property owner may inquire as to what service the dog is trained to provide, but that's it. No vest or badges needed.

Cool ! My dog is now a federally recognized service animal !!

I only take mine into pet stores etc. where they are welcome in any case, but if I were asked if he was a service animal I'd claim he was trained to detect diabetes.

There are many retailers that allow dogs into their stores: Lowes, HD, TSC, every pet store - just to name a few. The floors are all polished concrete, nobody is harmed. Sheesh.

The dog owners be be really upset. The leave the doggie present and flee the store like someone or something is chasing them.

A lot of places have suffered adverse publicity because they denied entry to someone claiming the dog was a “Therapy” dog.

I don't mind dogs in Lowes. What I hate are the fools who load lumber on carts and then push the cart all over the freaking store. I like the dogs better.

A lot of places have suffered adverse publicity because they denied entry to someone claiming the dog was a “Therapy” dog.

A Therapy Dog, as far as I know, is one brought into hospitals and nursing homes to comfort the patients. A Service Dog is one trained to provide a service to the owner. Detect impending seizures, pick up dropped items the owner can't reach, Provide support if the owner loses their balance, things like that.

From here: Service Dog Laws FAQ: Service Dog vs ESA vs Therapy Dog

"Is a therapy dog the same as a service dog?
A therapy dog handler is not given public access rights by any service dog laws to take the dog out everywhere like service dog users, because the handler does not have a disability the dog is individually trained to mitigate."
