Wives don't seem to notice much about dirt work when things are going well, but are quite astute when things take a southern turn. Unless you want to extend the garden or dig a pond (if it is that wet you might need a swale), ruts need to be shaved (folded back into the scar) and filled. It's an art form with a box scraper, and I'm beginning to find my way with the dozer blade on my 4n1. Many people are horrified by ruts in their lawn, but for those of us with the right machine and the ability to operate it, ruts are not a problem. Actually it is embarrassing for me when someone finds a spot that is soft enough (lack of drainage) to result in a rut. I quickly fix it (fill the rut and correct the drainage) before anyone who knows better sees it.
