Dollies for attachments

Whenever I get a new attachment, I buy a dolly for it if applicable. I usually get the inexpensive model at Tractor Supply Company.

So what? Check the nuts holding the castors - after a year or two, ALL the nuts were loose and a few were missing. (And I did check them before putting them into service - the wood probaly shrunk.)

I use the TSC Dollies also - Before I put them to use - I tighten all the bolts and put a little /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif bit of Marine Goop on them. Great stuff - Works great on those little garden dump trailers too. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Attach feet to computer case.
Easy to remove if not too thick.

I bought a couple of TSC castors that a like mini 3-wheeled dollies. I'll attach them to a 2x4 and join the 2x4s with a 1 by to keep them at the right distance apart. The dolly plus 2x4 plus 1 by will be near the height of a 4x4 that JD recommends putting the 4' brush hog onto in storage.

I use Goop (think its the same whether for plumbing, auto or marine), just thick silicon glue, to hold things in place. Put it on a lot of nuts against the part they're clamping, to keep them from coming loose.

These little 3 wheel castors at TSC are rated at 300 pounds each. Tiny wheels. Wouldn't be good for dirt or grass areas.

Here's a picture of the dolly attached to a 2x4 which is attached to a 1x6 that extends out about 1/2" beyond the outer side of the cutter. Note the little "L" that is one the end to keep from offsetting the dolly too far under the cutter. There's one on each side.

I've made dollies for my 72" brush cutter, 72" box blade and chipper/shredder. I've used 6X6 lumber, and screwed them together - overlapping one set of boards (usually the ones on meant for placement under the sides of the implement) over the other set into which wheels have been bolted. With the brush cutter (750 lbs), I used 6 wheels capable of 150 lbs each - mistake - the thing was hard to move around when loaded with the brush cutter - substituted 4 larger wheels rated 350 lbs (overkill, I admit) and greased the swivel bearings - and now it's easy. So, I've learned to use fewer, but larger, wheels. Sure makes arranging stuff around the limited garage space a whole lot easier.

Those casters are like the furniture casters I bought to use with my back blade. They work great. Gerard

Would have preferred the cast iron caster wheels of about 2", but TSC was out of them. Also, I could have only put a 1 by between them and the cutter or the 3 1/2" would have been exceeded. My draft arms only lift it about 4" off the floor.

The little wheels underneath my 420# cutter roll fine. They won't work in dirt or gravel though.

Ralph I would guess it really depends on how much weight that you place on the smaller wheels. I always set my snowblower and 3-point weight bracket down on a set of appliance dollies and I can move them within my pole barn quite easily. However when I set my backhoe down on a set it was a pain to move within the barn. So the backhoe now sets on a dolly with 5 inch steel casters and it moves very easy.
