I have a 5' rough cut mower. I have tried making a dolly to go under the front edge so that I can move it around in the barn. My problem has been making something that can handle the weight and still be low enough to be able to get the mower on and off the tractor. Does anyone have some pictures of things like this they have made?

I simply use two furniture dollies from TSC with a furring strip strapping them together, works like a champ, cost is $39.98 and time required is about 4 minutes to rig it up. I should add that I put the dollies under the sides so all of the cutter is supported by the dollies, this is the way I do all of my stuff, spreader, tiller, bh, fel, etc.

Dollies for me too. I have 6 or so from Harbor Freight. $12 or $15 each I think, when on sale. I don't tie them together though, so I can use 4 under the mower, or 3 under the snow plow, etc. It is remarkable how easy things roll on those things! It's also nice if you keep them separate since you can stack them when not in use and take up little room.

I made a roller lift to haul a snowmobile around and it works for a mower, too. I believe there is a commercial version of this for snowmobiles.

My rough cutter is only 40" wide and about 380 lb. I have it on a dolly, no pics already posted. Most of my implements are on custom home made dollies. The mmm is on 1/2" plywood with 2" swivel casters (I do have pics in the Kubota O/O forum of this). I found some 1000lb. steel 2" casters recently at a local industrial supply house. Home Depot has some that are similar.

I've heavy duty metal castor wheels attached to 1bys at the end of a 1by that goes the width of the unit. Don't have pictures of this current setup but I'll post pictures of the 3 wheel castors I used that weren't quite up to snuff (wheels broke after a bit of usage).

The single wheels at each end present a slight problem of how to hold them upright while lowering the unit onto the 1by. I just sit a 2by4 on edge underneath one side. There's just enough height to slide the 2by4 back out once the unit sits on the 1by.

Note the dolly shot is upside down.

Well harbor Freight just happens to have their dollies on sale. I picked up some of the mini dollies for $10 each. I put them under all my stuff and they work great. That was cheaper than buying casters.

Any ideas on the weight limit for those dollies from HF? My cutter weighs 1024 lbs and I'm wondering if two on each side would be enough. Thanks.

2 on each side, 4 total, will work fine. They are rated for 1000 lbs, but I've tested that and they will barely roll with that much weight. With 4 dollies you will be able to roll it easily.
