I just can't share that opinion of a store that treats me as well as they do.:thumbsup:

My wife and I are adding a bathroom onto our house. I went into Lowes yesterday to order a corner drop-in Jacuzzi tub, toilet, and lavatory. We were pleasantly surprised to find a sign at the Jacuzzi tubs that said they had a 15% off deal on special orders that started yesterday, 3/17/2011. We were excited because we just walked into the store and there was the offer. We had no idea there was a sale starting. So we got our stuff together and went to the special order desk. When they started to place the order, I showed them my Retired Military ID and they gave me an additional 10% off for that. So, we saved the price of the toilet on just the Jacuzzi tub and the clerk took 10% off all the items we had on our flatbed dollie. Talk about a smile on my face as I drove away. . .WOW!:D:D:D THANKS Lowes!

You seem to have all the luck! First TSC, and now Lowes...

Okay, but I have nothing good to say about them either :)

I have my own beefs with lowes. I dont like the way they price things even from one store to another. I am fortunate to live about 30 minutes from 4 DIFFERENT lowes. All in ohio, Mansfield/Ontario, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Ontario.

Marion store has a lowes 1/4mile away. Mansfield has a HD and Menards 1/4mi either side. Those two stores have MUCH cheaper prices than the Mt. Vernon store and the Columbus stores are hit and miss.

I have mentioned it before, but about 6 months ago a friend of mine was on his way to the Mt. Vernon store for some Blow in insulation. I told him to hold on while I checked online. Sure enough 9.89 in Mt. Vernon and 5.98 in Marion, SAME EXACT STUFF.

And I just last week found another one. 4" corrugated drain pipe.

Hopefully the links will work here

Shop Hancor 4"x100' Perforated Corrugated Pipe Hancor at Lowes.com

Shop Hancor 4"x100' Perforated Corrugated Pipe Hancor at Lowes.com

It really pays to use that "Check other stores" option on their site.

And NO the Mt Vernon store will NOT price match their other stores.:confused2:

Edit: Well apparently the links didnt work:(

But marion (zip 43302) is $33.88 and Mt. Vernon (43050) is $54.30

Talk about price gouging

Lucky you for the 15%. As for the 10% discount I think you should get that everywhere for serving our country. Congratulations to Lowes for offering it.

Yep, Jim, you are lucky for sure.

I went to Lowe's yesterday morning myself for a couple of little cheap items. I wanted one of those short (6") hose with the spring around it. Walmart and Home Depot didn't have them; Lowe's did.

But then I also wanted another brass cutoff valve to put on a garden hose. Walmart has them for $2.97, Home Depot for $5.97, and Lowe's for $7.66.:confused2:

I always wondered if a company can mark down implements 10-20-30%. How much profit do they make when there is no sale or discounts applied? Clothing is another example: buy 1 mens suit at regular price and get 2 of equal or greater value free. Womens clothing marked down 70 %. IMHO. It is all sales gimmicks. Ken Sweet

Last week I picked out about $10 of stuff at Lowe's. have gotten 10% off for over a year by showing expired military ID. New policy -you must be on the payroll now, retired & collecting or active duty, to get the 10%. Left the merchandise at the registere & reminded the manager that HD is directly across the street. They give 10% for all ex military. MikeD74T

I went to Home Depot, to buy some electrical stuff, for me. A friend had told me about his dish washer being broken since I had the truck we looked, he wanted a cheap manual model. They had one, $200.00 phoned him and he gave the OK to buy it. The sales man put it on the cart and off we go the sales girl scanned every code on the box, nothing came up, so I went and got the salesman. He gave her the numbers out of the catalog. Off we went, got to my buddy's place, we unloaded it and cut off the cardboard, it was an Amana, and electronic, he said that was a good deal when we were installing it in the hole we read the red tag it said remove plastic cover after installation, it was stainless. That model was not available in the area we got it at, but was a $600.00 unit he may have trouble getting warranty but he was willing to risk it.

I heard they changed their policy on military discounts, and were only doing it on Veterans day or Memorial day. I guess that isn't true.

For those with no military id you can go to post office and get change of address pack, there is a 10% off card in there for Lowe's, which of course can be used at Home Depot as well.

I suppose box stores get a bad rap sometimes, especially in areas where there are lots of stores and a big turnover in staff. In my county in Texas, there is one Walmart, one TSC, and one Lowes. The next closest stores are over 30 miles away in other counties. The Walmart, Lowes, and TSC are located in an adjoining parking lot, giving you the ability to drive from store-to-store without driving back onto the street/highway. Approximately 6 restaurants also dot the outer regions of these very large parking areas as do several small specialty stores. This IS the shopping universe of our county.

In addition to the more expensive items I bought at Lowes on my shopping trip, I also picked up three Rainbird impulse sprinklers, Model P5-R Plus. These are plastic impulse sprinkler heads that I can use to replace worn/non-working heads on several good sprinkler bases. Before going to Lowes, I checked Amazon and did an online search to get an idea of good prices. Amazon's price was $9.55 with free shipping if I bought three sprinkler heads. Other prices on one of the search sites turned up prices as low as $8.50 for the same sprinkler. Imagine my surprise when I checked Lowes and found their price to be $6.17 each. With my discount, that got me the sprinkler heads for $5.55 each or exactly a $4 savings over Amazon.

I only tell this story to demonstrate what we all know. It is wrong to assume you will get the best price when shopping any one source. You have to be a smart shopper. Sometimes online shopping is a bargain, but many times it is not. Do your homework and know what you are looking for is my advice. In my case, it is wonderful to have these stores nearby. Some stores in different locations have their problems, but the stores in my area save me time, travel, and real money in many instances. Sure, there are plenty of times I think their stock levels or quality may suffer, but overall I think our county is far better off for having them than not.:)

Jim,

I shop there on occasion to, allot better than fighting the crowds in Ft Worth for sure. Decatur still has the "country" atmosphere and you can tell the difference in the attitude of the workers.

X's 2 on the shopping around.

If you use the V.A. they will honour your V.A. id card.If Lowes won't honour the discount anymore I'll just shop H.D. russ

I've actually found very few "bargains" online. Most of my online shopping is simply for things I cannot find locally in any of the stores. We had an old MicroMaster Microwave Pressure Cooker that saw a lot of use and after a year of so of searching every store we could think of with no luck, I ordered 2 from Amazon.com. Target also has them online, but not in the stores. I was unable to find a CDN timer except online. And this coming week, I expect UPS to deliver a Dramm 12342 400DC Die Cast Aluminum Water Breaker Nozzle after I gave up finding one of any kind in stores. In some cases, I get free shipping while in others, the shipping can double, or more than double, the cost of the item.

My garage door opener started to bind then fail to open or close a 9' single door. looked at Lowes there Genie was 178.+tax. Since wife wanted to shop in the other center near Home Depot. drove there and went shoping in HD
The price of same opener was 198 +tax showed the clerk that Lowes was cheaper. He said show this to cashier and she will give Lowes price and add 10% off the sale so saved $17 by just chance of checking.
I usually don't shop around maybe will change my habit.

In Kalispell, MT, Lowes also recently refused my old military ID. I served 6 years active in the USN during Viet Nam. Home Depot, directly accross the steet, welcomes my ID and gives the 10%. - - - -Guess where I shop........

I don't think Lowes really cares about me or my business and there aren't that many veterans around who even know about the discounts.....but, I've spent at least $7,500 at HD over the last few years on remodel projects that Lowes could have had a piece of....

Mike

My BIL is a HD mgr. in SW Florida and he told me in Feb. that they discontinued that practice and only honor active duty vets with the discount. They still give the discount on the 3 vets days.

When searching HD's website, I read the following on the comment section.

When I e-mailed Customer Service, I got this response from Rodney:

Thank you for your email to The Home Depot Online Customer Support.

Currently, through Home Depot Online, we still offer the military discount to active and retired military personnel.

In regards to the store, there policies may differ on an individual basis, per their management groups.

So it looks like it varies from store to store......
