don\'t tell the wife !

I just wanted to say thanks to all you members out there in helping me make my decision between a Kubota and a Kioti . I placed an order for a DK45TLB today . Kubota's are nice ,but I just could not justify the extra $17,000 my local Kubota dealer wanted for their tractor .They are nice ,but they are not that nice ! Base on all the excellent threads on here ,you all made it easier to realize that Kioti is here to stay . I thought a dozen red roses in the front bucket might win the wife over on this little purchase! I guess we will see! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks again , Big Al

Congratulation on the new DK 45. Real nice machines.
Good luck with it.

Which Kubota model were you pricing to get such a huge price differance ??

Re: don\'t tell the wife !

It was a L4300 . Like I said , Nice but not that nice . I also might need to talk with you about where you got your top and tilt rams when you set up your rig . I was thinking of looking in Northern Tool to see what might work as rams . I am looking at box scrapers now . I picked up a used 70" snowblower today and a bush hog post digger .So a grapple and 72" box blade are the last two items I need to be set up .

Re: don\'t tell the wife !

For my top link I used a 2 1/2" x 8" throw tie rod cylinder from Tracor Supply Co. The cylinder was around $65 but required cutting the ends and welding on ends from a bent top link I had.
Cylinder, hoses , fittngs and quick couplers total around $120.

The tilt cylinder was a 2" x 4" surplus tie rod cylinder from Prince Direct. Part # SAE-8404-0.
$35 for cylinder, Where the top of the cylinder attached I needed a differant pin and made bushings. Where the bottom attached I removed the end that came with the cylinder and found nuts that would thread on then welded and drilled new brackets to the nuts.
The tilt cylinder, fittings, hoses, quick couplers total around $100.
Both cylinders were painted , Rust O leum charcoal gray is a close match to the Kioti gray.

Re: don\'t tell the wife !

Big Al you bought a brand new tractor for yourself and a dozen roses for the wife? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif If I were you I would be adding in some expensive jewelry to go along with the flowers. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif That's just a suggestion mind you.

I Did! It's a Kioti Charm! She can wear it 50 % of the time on her neck if she wants to ,but it weighs 6000 plus pounds ! The other 50% of the time I get to use it ! Seems dang fair to me . Have a good one ! Big Al /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: don\'t tell the wife !

Know what I did....the end of 2002 I went out and spent big bucks on a new JD to replace my old garden tractor. Asked them to hold it for me until spring while I figured out a way to tell my wife about it. For Valentine's Day I fixed her a fancy dinner and gave her a very expensive gift. She asked how I could afford it, I told her being retired gave me time to work on the side and also budget my income better, and down the road I hoped to be able to replace my '89 model. She said well I do think you need a new one but it has to be something I can drive. Had a hard time keeping the smile off my face when she said that. Had it delivered during the spring while she was at work, I stored it in my barn where she never would have wanted to look. A week later we came home from a shopping spree to furnish our addition and she said we must be nuts to go into debt this far on a fixed income. And I stupidly said something like, you don't know the half of it.....

She gave me a funny look and said, "OH, THAT EXPLAINS THE VALENTINES DAY GIFT YOU GAVE ME, you went and bought yourself a new tractor didn't you??!!"

I said basically well yes, but, didn't you say......

And she wasn't angry at all, just happy for me. I'm a lucky fellow I guess.
