Don't trust that temp light

   / Don't trust that temp light #11
I have found what Norm has said is true, gauges are vastly better than idiot lights as I have had both the temp and oil sending units fail in my yanmar. I have found that gauges in the auto world will help prevent and/or trouble shoot problems much easier and I would suggest replacing all sending units on your tractor with gauges if possible. The cost is low verses what the repairs would entail. If the gauges are in your operational field of view you will subconsiously keep an eye on them an notice any drastic changes, at least I am able to catch them without thinking about them....

True, but they will do that even with the sensor wire disconnected. You have no way of knowing if it will work when needed.

Isn't the oil pressure light straight mechanical switch.. that is.. lamp is lit when pressure is lower than threshold.. and lamp is off when pressure is up?

So.. if the sense wire was off.. no lamp at startup right?

I didn't try the oil light, but my temp gauge moves when I turn the switch to start, even with the sense wire disconnected.
