Ditto on the stupid consoles! People like to pretend they are in a cockpit I guess.

I remember in the late 80s, my Dad complaining that all the passenger cars were pancake like.

Now you get in someones new car and don't know what to say. You can't very well say, yup, another PLASTIC sheit box!

Then you see their new house and it has all the creature comforts of a gymnasium.

Jealousy is such a shallow thing....

I may be jeaulous of certain things. But certainly not that. I can't even imagine buying a new vehicle because what I see in the show room, I couldn't imagine spending money on. Maybe if it was the very basic, entry level product and their was s huge cost saving for that level and lack of comfort.

Calling someone's new car a plastic sheit box borders on jealousy. As does saying someone's new house has the comforts of a gymnasium. Not being able to imagine spending money on either is entirely different. So rather than discrediting what they have purchased, you might be better served simply saying you can't buy that.

You don't seem to understand. You couldn't give me those things as I consider them hideous. You never read what I write. I don't SAY that, but am thinking it.

When I grew up, you would buy a brand new house with hardwood and when you could afford it, cover it with wall to wall carpet. To "me" that's comfort. Warm, cozy and quiet. A gymnasium just isn't that.

Don't even get me started on open concept houses.

I had a '68 GT Fastback and a '99 Cobra. Wish I could put that Cobra engine in my old '68!

I fondly remember my friends new 76 Olds Cutlass Supreme. That thing was incredibly comfy. I would defy anyone to show me a present day 100K vehicle that comes even close in comfort.

I had a 1977 (same as 76) new two door. $6,000, list was $6400. I still have the window price sticker. A very fine car in its day. But it does not compare to me to a nice full size SUV of today for comfort, convenience, and reliability. 350 4Bbl, am/fm 8-track, vinyl bucket seats. No cup holder, ha.

This thing was a four door and as plush as any lazyboy you have ever seen.

Nowadays luxury is when they start putting chrome over various of the plastic dash board components!

Yeah, a neighbor had those plush cloth seats in his, ‘‘twas nice. I drove mine for 8 years and 110,000 miles and sold it for $1200.
I believe our memories play tricks on us though. My parents yard used to be HUGE when I was mowing it with a push Murray.

I understand.

I wouldn't consider buying a new truck. But that doesn't mean I should slam the new truck that my neighbor bought.

I wouldn't consider buying an electric Gator. But that doesn't mean I should slam the person that does for doing so.
