It's my experience that almost without an exception, 'New and Improved also refers to a price increase.

Our new house has zero wall to wall carpet.

Much easier to clean.

Much cleaner to live in.

I hate walking on hard floors. I even have wall to wall carpet in my one bathroom. I'm sitting in my basement office with bare feet on a carpeted floor. No way, I would want my feet on a hard surface. Just not nice.

I just find it mysterious how "Everyone" is in that mindset. Before carpet good, now carpet bad. Harvest Gold appliances Good, now harvest gold appliances bad. Just a bunch of sheep! If I like it then, I like it now.

I'm with you. During our early poverty days, we lived in a house with hardwood floors; it was cold. When we put carpet in the living room, the kids went crazy...watching TV lying on the floor, going barefoot, etc. It made the house so much more comfy and friendly.

Oh...and another thing...as an old painter, I find it difficult to understand why anyone would paint over beautiful stained woodwork. I recall back maybe 30 or 40 years ago, folks buying some of the old Victorian homes in OKC and restoring them...and that included stripping the paint of the beautiful old woodwork.

I would agree in a house with cold floors. Depending on how cold it is outside, our floors range from 73F to 78F.
