I am in the midst of installing the double acting valve on my DK35....I am in the process of removing the two studs to install the new longer studs. How do I screw them in without buggering them up? Any other recommendations for this install are much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

There is a tool for installing the studs,,,most dont have them unless your Norm Abrams. U can just double two nuts on the threads and lock them together. U do not have to have the studs supper tight,,,just make sure u use blue locktite on the threads going into the case.

That's what I did. 2 nuts(3 if you count me) and lock-tite........and a bud light to help out:D:laughing:

OK...I guess I'm only a little stupid...I did do the nut trick...I am surprised the kit didn't come with new nuts with the studs...I did not use locktite :( Time will tell if that was a mistake I guess....

I have one left over part that I cannot figure out where to put...It is PN 05411-628, a "Pin,Spring". It is not clearly or vaguely shown in the instructions? Any guesses? It is about 1 inch long, with a narrow slit lengthwise.

Thanks for all your responses...and the reminder to get a cold beer, sure makes working on a hot day more tolerable...

Thank you all....

That is a roll pin not used in your application. Instead of using the roll pin, you have installed a set screw in a lever that attached to the 2nd remote.

Nothing to worry about!

Tony

P.S. I must be Norm. I have a stud installer/removal tool......

Thank you all who responded...I was able to get everything installed and back together and leak checked. Nothing at the valve leaked...I have a small dribble at the rear couplers that will have to get fixed....Can I use TFE sealant, it says it works on oil/hydraulic and high pressure, it's the white paste. I will have to take them apart, clean, reseal, and try again.
Thanks,
Jeff

I used white teflon tape on mine and it sealed it right up. The paste may work. Just try to make sure that none gets into the system.

Teflon tape is very BAD to use in hydraulic systems. Little bits of it get into spool valves, PRV's (pressure relief valves) and pumps and can foul them up.

A PTFE paste is the proper sealant on hydraulic systems. I use Loctite 565 or Permatex #80632.

I learn something new everyday...I think my mistake may have been not letting the PTFE paste sit overnight prior to starting up the tractor and pouring the coals to it... I am going to have to disassemble, clean, and reseal...

Again, thanks to all that replied...Your advice has helped tremendously.

I'll remember about the sealant, kenny. I thought the sealant could also work it's way in, even easier, while tightening the connection. Being that it's a tapered thread, I start the wrap of the teflon tape a little short of the end of the threads figuring if anything, it would be pushed back and stay away from the flow end. I guess I was lucky this time. I did that job four years ago and no problems noticed with anything. A friend works on airplanes and advised that on many system connections, no sealants are allowed because of it getting into the lines, etc., but those parts seem to be better fitting/machined. Thanks for the tip.
