Double charge of power service...

I wonder how PS would work in the ThermoStart, for tractors that have that system. (It makes a tiny flame in the intake manifold.)

Filling the 1.5 oz Thermostart fuel bowl from a quart of PS would sure be easier than from a 5 gallon diesel can.

Probably would work just fine seeing as how Power Service is about 98% diesel fuel #2 anyways.....

The normal dosage of Power Service is very low, about 0.15% or thereabouts. Double this is of no concern.

Cetane of regular diesel is about 50ish. The cetane of the diesel they used in those Audis that won at Sebring and Le Mans was 75. Don't think you're likely to get it this high with Power Service. If so, no problem; probably will run smoother.

I was like a surgeon measuring in precise increments like a heart doctor administering medicine . Guess I'll just give it a couple of splashes and not worry about it. I always was worried about mixing that stuff with the fuel. I guess I was delving into the unknown and i didn't want a potential bomb in the making...Thanks for the insight...

Yea, I wouldnt worry about it....

I added a whole bottle of Motorcraft fuel treatment/cetane enhancer(made to treat 120gal) to a 1/4 tank(about 6-7gal).. It ran good and helped to clear the soot out of the intake, EGR and exhaust pipe:D in the 50mi we drove it afterwards.. Kinda surprised, it was overkill and I wouldnt do it on a regular basis(dont think it would hurt) but it was really effective with what we were trying to do..

I used to just pur a couple of glugs from the quart size PS bottle. Now I buy the big jug of PS and actually measure it out since my glugger was out of calibration with the larger jug. Plus I am trying to shave costs.

Surgeons don't measure in precise increments. We just "wing it".;)

But what if you doubled the already double rate by accident. Would it cause too high of compression??? Just curious...

If you did double the higher of the recommended amounts and have already run the mix in your tractor, I'm sorry, but you've already destroyed your motor. You probably can't tell yet, but since it will be reduced to a steaming pile of worthless junk within a short time, just to save yourself the embarrassment, you should sell it to me ASAP for scrap by weight.

PS - But seriously, the only thing you've done is make your fuel stable to below -75F. How's bushhogging Siberia sound? :) As long as your tractor starts and runs, you have adequate compression to ignite the higher Cetane number (which is likely an insignificant difference as far as your motor is concerned). It's just like running racing fuel in a Toyota Corolla - no performance difference, just a lot of extra money.

So, here is the question. Summer diesel #1 has more power compared to Winter Diesel (mixture of #1 and #2). So, if I want more power, why not just buy Summer Diesel and and add Power Service? Won't gell, won't cloud and more power (I have a turbodiesel tractor)????? And is summer diesel less costly than winter diesel????
