Double clutch 2710???

I am still looking for a replacement for Satoh 650G. Looked at b2710 with 160 hrs and a loader. Unit looked well kept and oil was clean. However; the current owner said the Hydro shift required "double clutch" to move from Neutral to Mid range. He directed me to clutch then touch fwd. petal then clutch and shift. I asked an employe of small Kubota dealer about this and he said that's common. Is this a common occurence with B2710's? Thanks for all input.

gotrocks, it's "common" on nearly all the hydro tractors regardless of make or model. The gears are not synchromesh and you may, or may not, need to do that to change ranges or to go from neutral to one of the other ranges. You can move the lever and it may go into the range very easily (if the gears happen to be lined up right). If not, then you can release the clutch, press lightly on the hydro pedal to turn the gears, and try again. Occasionally you may have to do it 2 or 3 times to get it to go easily, but don't force it. Now . . ., that's the way the manual says to do it. Actually, you don't even have to use the clutch so long as the hydro pedal is in the neutral position so it isn't turning the gears either direction, and the tractor is sitting completely still, when you move the lever into the range you want. I frequently change ranges without using the clutch, but with my foot on the brake.

Bird, Thanks for your quick reply.
If the tractor is rolling can you shift with the clutch without stopping? I also noticed that there was a slight "creep" when the hydro pedal was in neutral, is that OK? All this conversation and information and I haven't even heard from the present owner stating that he will sell. But it's still good to know as much as one can. So thank you again Bird and anyone else that has experience.

No, with or without the clutch you must be stopped.

No, that needs to be corrected; probably a very minor adjustment.
