Double my cutting speed

I think I’m going to buy a used Pottinger 352ED rear mower to go with my 351 Novacat front mower.

I’m sick of how long mowing takes and would like to spend more time with family. Besides, I have to move and that’s going to take lots of time.

Found this 352ED in PEI for ~$17K. looks to be in excellent conditions.

So here’s where it gets kind of strange. My local favorite dealer has same mower, but it has roll conditioner. Just a little more expensive and not quite as nice condition as the one in PEI. With transportation, the PEI mower will be slightly more, but the PEI mower has tine conditioning like my front mower.

I’d prefer to buy from my local dealer and prefer rolls over tines, but currently have a tine machine.

Rolls crack stems and tines strip wax off stems, so if I “mix” 2 different kinds of mowers, I could have different drying characteristics in alternating rows, which would be weird.

I need to speed-up mowing, but the above situation has me pausing on what to do.

I've been to Kensington Ag several times looking at things, used lot is tidy and organized.

Have not bought anything from them though. I did have them tell me they won't sell anything NEW off island, used is no issue.

The front mount / rear / butterfly mower units are quite popular with the dairy farmers.

My take is to have both units with the same conditioning and always go nicer machine. Your USD makes CDN stuff better deal than the other way around for us.

The cheap route is buy the PEI mower. The long term is to buy 2 used roll mowers, but that would be lotsa more $

My current front mower is pretty beat up, so wouldn’t be a bad time to upgrade it.

I also have the possibility of another 150 acres coming my way. An aging-out farmer is being given right of first refusal on a big neighboring parcel.

I’m next in line.

Would be a game changer and that would force me into adding that additional 11’ of mower.

The new Pottinger 302 side mower is working well. I have mowed a few hundred acres with it along with my Novacat front mower and the larger fields are getting done much faster. It just mows and mows with little stress.
I hated spending the money, but it’s done now.
