In an RV forum, it's quite common to pull a 5th wheel trailer and another trailer behind that, thus double towing.
I just bought a 24' gooseneck trailer to transport my JD 4210 w/FEL and backhoe attachment. In addition, I want to haul the box scaper and another FEL w/tooth bar. I also want to tow a 6'x10' bumper pull dump trailer behind the G/N.
Anyone ever do this? If so, can you share your experience?

You must have fairly big truck.. I have seen an RV'r or two double towing. I wonder what the weight differences between the RV situation, and what your asking, would be?

(seon, pardon the change of discussion: still have the t/w bh? and are you still happy with it.? I got a 760 seems ok so far.)

I'm not sure it is legal to tow double trailers without DOT approved connections. Semi's have to have approved couplers.
Also you will need a class A or B licence with Doubles/ Triples endorsement if it's comercial. I have the class A with D/T endorsement but I can't remember questions on the test about types of couplers.

Tim, Yes I still have the T/W bh. I just helped my nephew by digging a trench for a retaining wall at his new home. I really like it. I still need to build a subframe for it. Hopefully by this summer.
BTW I've contacted a couple of company that sells T/W to buy a 12" bucket. Seems like pulling hen's teeth finding one. I think I'll try fabricating one myself.

Regarding double tow...the gooseneck trailer I bought has a 2" receiver on it, so apparently it's design to tow another trailer(?) .

I'll ask the Hwy Patrol to get their ruling...being they'd be the one who'll be pulling me over and giving me a ticket LOL.

Why double tow you ask?...Well I'll need to return to my nephew's house (three hour drive) to backfill behind the retaining wall. The JD will be on the G/N trailer along with a couple of implements. The excess dirt will have to be hauled away from his house in the dump trailer. I'll be towing both trailer (if it's legal) with a Silverado 1 ton dually.

Yes I'd ask the state police and if they said yes (get a name&badge# of who you talked to) I'd do it, no problem...;)

(Got my subframe almost ready, will post pics when done...tim)

i see guys pulling bass boats with the wave runner behind it all the time.

or an dulley pulling a 5th wheel RV pulling boat etc.

I see utility trailer guys (the guys that build them) pulling doubles all the time.

This G/N trailer I bought has a 2" receiver so it's made to tow something behind it. LOL

Here in Indiana your you can double tow as long as the rigs total length is under 65', 26,000#, and all trailers over 3,000# must have brakes with a break away system. I have done it and it is no problem. Just make sure your truck can handle it and you plan your stops. You don't want to have to back up at a gas station or something like that.

I looked up Cali's law and its the same as Indiana. Over 26,000# you need a CDL.

I was also wondering about the same thing. I also have a 24' GN w/2" receiver hitch on the back and would like to take my dump trailer along with sometimes.

I just spoke to a CHP officer who said that a CDL is required to tow double with a 5th wheel/GN apparatus.
