Huh. I guess that's not what I expected. To me an orchard is a grove of apple trees. Not much need for any soil work. Only have to run some equipment through at harvest time and that isn't usually very heavy. But I know that's a pretty limited view of 'orchards'. Maybe there are orchards where you replant frequently or something.

There seemed to be two schools of thought in our area back when I was younger and there were a lot of orchards. Disc or harrow to get rid of weeds, or sow mustard seed to crowd them out. These were mostly almond or prune/plum orchards. In central valley walnut orchards now they process the ground until it's flat and smooth as a parking lot, then use shakers and big vacuums to harvest.

Hey - I'm just repeating what the dealer told me when I bought the tiny dozer. It must have been a hot item. He had sold it, when a week later, I dropped by to see my shiny new Ford 1710.

Nice. I grew up on a 4 cal gas Cletrac. Ran that thing all over the mountains in Bedford, PA. My grandfather had it for 50 years until the crank snapped one day. Nice little machine and tough as nails.

Seeing that engine running at night must be a real light show! Bob

very cool thread- neat watching the step by step, from abandoned and dead to coming back to life :) keep up the good work! I love old 'junk' brought back from the brink...ive done a old leblond lathe, cnc bridgeport, deckel tool grinder, and even a forklift...every time i walk thru the scrapyard my garage gets fuller...

wish i had pics of the lathe and the deckel- the deckel was actually upside down in the mud, but must not have been there more than a couple weeks as it wasnt rusted too bad...

on your dozer- the right hand track looks to be missing links- are wear items like track still produced for these things? best of luck on it, threads like this are awesome :)

So I got some more work done today. I was stuck on the water pump for a month, had to look for one, and save my pennies for a while, they sure are not cheap, and hard to find!! I located a rebuilt unit from Landis Zimmerman, the Cletrac God. lol

Mine was all seized up, looks like it was previously worked on years ago, they brazed the impeller all back together, the housing was all cracked and welded back. The distributor/water pump drive shaft was chewed all to ****. Luckily I found a whole new unit.

I tried to get it apart to save it, but it was too far gone. I used a lot of heat too.

Kept on going and got the water pump bolted on, then the oil filter housing. That's enough for a days work. I'll clean up the block where the starter goes, I got that rebuilt too. You can see when I started, the cylinder head is a different orange, then I special ordered a case of Cletrac orange and painted everything else with it. I'm leavin the head that other orange, I don't care. LOL. Just an old dozer.

My dad and I got it running a couple weeks ago. I’ve been busy doing other things.

Rigged up a little radiator, the cletracs core is trashed. $760 for a new core.
